Opa!🇬🇷🧿 Today I turned 52🎂
It was a year ago that I made a promise to myself. I was cruising down the River Nile celebrating my birthday with my mum, after seeing the pyramids in Egypt on what really was the trip of a lifetime, when I blew birthday candles out.
I decided then and there that, if at all possible, I was going to do everything in my power to celebrate the rest of my birthdays somewhere fabulous - doing something fabulous and different, in an interesting corner of the world I hadn’t discovered yet, with someone I love.
And this year, I made sure that little promise to myself came true again🩵
Birthday number 52 on the Greek island of Naxos, was the most incredible day (thanks @nhuggz for sharing with me 🫶🏻) full of swimming, sightseeing at the ancient Temple of Apollo and its famous Portara, mango daiquiris 🍹and a farm-to-fork cooking class in the mountains at Basiliko Farm - making stuffed peppers, slow-cooked pork, homemade tzatziki (girls, I’ll drop the recipe later!) and other authentic Greek dishes, followed by birthday cake, plate smashing, Greek dancing, singing and lots of laughing.
And to top it all off, watching The Odyssey under the stars at an open-air cinema in Naxos - surrounded by the Aegean and the very landscape and mythology that inspired the story - was one of those pinch-me moments that felt almost surreal. 🎬✨
Girls, boys, anyone who wants some free advice which i rarely feel confident enough to dish out! is that one thing I’ve FINALLY learnt in life at the ripe old age of 52 is that if you want to make your dreams happen, you just have to set a plan in motion and make them happen yourself.
Book the trip. Make the plans. Give yourself the present 💝
