Price is comparable to NBN, been a very happy customer for over 2 years now. They also provide me with NBN as a backup at no extra cost. I haven't had to turn it on for more than a year. Watching something download at > 20 megabytes a second is a joy to behold

I knew something was going to be fked up... Ask for the cable to be run to my study, cable length of about 30m. Rather than run the cable in the existing cavity alongside the phone cable (internal walls), the dumb son of a bitch ran conduit on the outside of the wall, cut a hole in the eave, then pushed it through the ceiling cavity. So now I have this ugly white pipe on the outside of my modern house, and if I get it re-run, I've got 12 fucking holes drilled into the outside of the house that I have to patch and paint... You've made a very powerful enemy NBN, prepare to waste a lot of resources dealing with me...

I'm surprised to hear NBN people ran new cable to your study. I would have thought that work would be performed by private contractors.
I understand your pain. Nothing worse than lazy pricks taking shortcuts. I suggest you get it redone and patch the wall. It sounds like the house is rendered, shouldn't be a problem patching the holes and touching up the paint.

They're allowed to do max 40m, so it's within scope. It got worse, rather than horizontally aligb the interior port with the power and phone Jack, he went above the port so it half way up the wall and an eyesore. Might be no issue to most, but I have mild-mid diagnosed OCD and it really upsets me...

So aside from the install workmanship, everything eventually went OK...
Had originally signed up for 50Mbps on a 12 month contract with Belong, $0 install, $0 modem. Was getting circa 40Mbps peak speed (i'm close to the exchange).

A little trick though - I then requested to be put up to the 100Mbps plan, which:
 A. Increased my average to around 80Mbps
 B. They waived the break fee, now on month by month
 C. Can change providers if I want

Interestingly, I've had to reboot my new router twice in the last 10 days.
It came back up straight away, but very rarely have I ever had to reboot when I was on cable.

I noticed also that I could not even ping the router from either wifi or ethernet, so if this was a "network" issue it took the router out completely as well.
It's not a major hassle at this point, but thankfully I was not doing anything important at the time.

In Buenos Airport, the **free** WiFi is over 400 Mb/s! In Mongolia and Tibet it was 175Mb/s. How did we end up with 2-10 Mb/s in Australia?

What's everyone's internet speed these days? I was on 25mbps for years I guess but 5 months ago I upped it to 50 so Kayo would be more smoother, then I heard about these increased speeds coming this month but you had to be on the 100 plan to get them. So I went to 100 and on Sunday that changed to 500/50. Sounds good but I don't really notice the increased speed in general use, I could have stayed on the 50 plan and it would feel the same. Might be more useful in a house with multiple devices streaming stuff I guess.
