Oh my good lord! I can see a TODAY producer getting fired today! Nothing like a bit of cultural appropriation on breakfast television to start your day off just right. I cannot believe that Karl+Sarah didn't look at the idea of wearing sombreros pretending to be Mexican, and thought to themselves… 'yeah, this'll get a laugh on national breakfast television. No-one will take offence at this in the current world order where taking offence is the default national sport - this'll be fine'.



I'm on tenterhooks just waiting for tomorrow when they turn up in blackface and start singing 'Ma Dear Ol' Mammy' from The Black & White Minstrel Show. That'll be an absolute hoot!

Whomever's running the TODAY show is 100% brain dead to have green-lit this idea. I hope to god the Mexican ambassador in Canberra didn't see this and forward it onto Claudia Sheinbaum's attention, because this has the potential to severely harm Australia's reputation as a country of racists internationally even worse than it already is. If Penny Wong isn't on the phone right now to Claudia pre-emptively apologizing on behalf of Karl+Sarah before the outrage hits social media, then she is going to have a few very tough days in diplomatic circles in front of her.

I think Media Watch on ABC already has their top story for next week's episode. I wonder if Nein pull the episode off 9Now for replay when they get the inquiries from Media Watch. They will be idiots if they don't.

I had a quick look at your profile because I thought you might be really new here.
I think you give this place too much credence as a place here we might become outraged at issues like cultural appropriation. Speaking for myself I think this line from Gaskrankinstation by the Headless Chickens covers it:

& I think you give far too much credence to breakfast tv show producers. They literally have minutes and seconds to fill inbetween ad breaks (the real reason tv exists). They don't give a fuck what that fill is as long as
a) it fills the timeslot
b) there's someone down the line to take the fall if it does indeed go pear shaped.

Watch Frontline for a fairly realistic (tho slightly dated and funny) take on what goes on behind the camera.

This thread, and this entire site for that matter, is definitely pro-sombrero!!
