By running into traffic, you mean you she had cars coming towards her? If so, you are taught to do that from a safety point of view for the runner. You see the car coming towards you, means you react quicker to it.
It just looked wrong, it was in one-way section with gutters either side, if she was even half a metre to her left I would have had nowhere to go.
