Don't expect accurate and truthfull reporting from The Mail, the red flag in this one was using the word "baffled" in the headline, no one is ever baffled.
That said it was quite a cringey stunt.

These constant misreports are purely aimed at creating a story where there is none. Start a rumour, then force the celeb to either openly defend themselves (thereby appearing as in if they've got something to defend), or just chip away at their reputation.
We supposedly live in a free country, but a business model purely based on false reporting should be shut down, it serves no purpose
