'I lost five kilos and a boyfriend' says TV host Samantha Armytage

NEWLY single TV host Samantha Armytage has shed 5kg by wiping sugar and white bread from her diet.

Following a weight-loss tip from her colleague Natalie Barr, Seven's Weekend Sunrise presenter says she has never felt fitter and healthier.

"I was inspired by Nat, who had eliminated sugar from her diet. I did Dry July and then began my diet - and that was fantastic," says Armytage, who recently ended her relationship with hotelier Peter De Angelis.

Armytage and De Angelis began dating late last year and were last seen in public together at a Glebe bar opening in mid August.

While Armytage confirmed the split, she didn't want to divulge details.

The Sony Foundation ambassador said she hadn't been overly strict about sticking to the sugar-free regime, which has become popular among Hollywood celebrities such as Jessica Biel and Selma Blair.

It involves avoiding refined sugar, white bread, soft drink and most fruit juice. "You have to be disciplined. I go up and down but I tried to stick to it and it worked, but then I sort of fall off the wagon," she said.

The Seven personality has joined forces with Jets swimwear, which launches a capsule swimwear range with Katies this week to support cancer charity You Can.
