Yes, I remember it well . . . such fond memories . . . rushing out and spending a small fortune on a wide screen HD TV only to find that the stations were stopping broadcasting in HD only a few weeks later . . . such fond memories . . . rushing out again to buy a DVD player/recorder to capture all of those brilliant HD programmes . . . such fond memories of being completely peeeeed off by it all. Great caps though, _caps. Many thanks.

In addition to this, the present infrastructure for Australian TV is only strong enough to support 1 HD channel per major network, having two HD channels per major network simply isn't possible. Then comes the issue of cost. The networks could always make the main channel the HD channel again, but Networks are going to milk these restrictions and keep costs down as low as possible right up to December 2013, as it is cheaper for them to broadcast only a handful of shows in HD on the multichannel (e.g. 7Mate) then it is to broadcast all major domestic programming which is aired on the main station (e.g. Channel 7). Domestic programming should be getting priority for being broadcast in higher quality, but it's not in the networks short term interests to do that. Like it or not, were stuck with mediocre 576i (SD) until December 2013 at the earliest. The whole digital tv affair has been handled horribly by governments of the past. We should've had digital TV by now, pretty much every other major developed country in the world does.

Even if there was legislation that they had to make the main channel the HD channel, it wouldn't necessarily mean they would bother showing all programs in HD, just so they could cut costs. Let's face it, TV networks don't give a stuff about the viewer, it's all about making money!
