Watch the price compared to hard drive size Skaven . Harvey Norman was selling 500gig TF7100HDPlus's for same price as Good Guys were selling 320gig TF7100HDPlus's . JB is worth a look as well , sometimes they have online specials . I'll probably get my TF7100HDPlus (500gig) from Harvey when I get back from Darwin .

Yeah, I reckon the TF7100 would more than suit my needs. It'll probably be a while before I get to it but. My car's long overdue some major servicing & my PC's long overdue an upgrade (it still has the spreadsheet Noah used to count the animals). I'm getting a nice 23" Acer monitor from Radio Rentals for my birthday tomorrow (thanks, Mum) which is a start.

Personally I always buy my stuff from Radio Rentals. And my parents have done since the '70s. They'll match any other price & I've always found their after-sale service very good. I've heard that for some places (eg: Harvey Norman, Good Guys, etc.) it's non-existent.

When I bought a few thousand dollars worth of home entertainment system equipment a few years back the two set-top boxes kept stuffing up so they replaced them with the same kind. A few months later they started stuffing up so they replaced them with a new release of a different brand. About a years after that they stuffed up so they replaced them with brand new ones of a different brand again. After I had & was using the TV for a few weeks I wasn't happy about something about it so they replaced that with a new one as well which was pretty decent I thought...

Good on ya mate , if you get service like that it's worth sticking with them .

the price of good fast PC nowdays you could get a great 1 TB PC with dual tuners ( approx $450- $500 Sydney price ) .. run it through either & or monitor plus TV ( wireless if different room ) & have a vastly superior beast to a topfielder that is just a recorder & not easily compatable files " with anything" to save the HD recordings = why you want 500GB + and even then may still be deleting un seen stuff, when social life interfears with tv catch up

Okay, now I've got another question for yah...

The advantageous thing about VCRs is that, if you recorded something you thought someone else would like to see, you could lend them the tape.

So my question is...

Do DVRs have something like a USB to insert something like a flash plug so you can transfer the recorded programme onto & lend them that? If some do, what jargon in the specifications do I need to look for to know if that particular unit has that feature?

If yes, does that also mean that, if you have any AVI or mpeg files on your PC, you can transfer them onto you flash plug & watch them on your DVR?

Yes they do , look for " USB 2.0 Support " the TRF7160 has 1 and the TF7100HDPlus has 2

My original capture card (Twinhan DTV) finally bit the dust after 5 years of use, funnily enough the thing that killed it was the RF/AV jack became too loose to recognise that an aerial was plugged into it..... silly me for trying to wiggle it around more (as i have not been able to get 7HD at all over the last few days - i could still watch/record/cap Ch 10, 9 & 9HD, ABC channels etc).

Going to try out several lower grade cards, i am due for a computer upgrade later this year (might push it forward next month, so i can get the higher grade capture card i am eyeing off).

I have finally got a HD STB , thanks to fathers day...
It has a USB port I can record to, and then work on the files on the PC.
The files are .TS format, I am able to play the files with Media Player Classic and get caps with the 'save image' function, but does anyone know how to convert .TS files to .AVI files for making video clips?

I have tried a couple of programs but so far the audio seems to out of sync in the resulting .avi's...
