Great news, now break some limbs for success :P does it have to be your own leg, or is that what understudies are 4 ? :chuckel:

I've never had an understudy. I've never worked at that level. It'd be good to be an understudy in a big touring show though I reckon. A lot of people went on to have quite successful careers starting out that way.

The whole breaking of legs thing... I'm an unusual Thespian in that I am not a suspicious one. There's nothing more enjoyable then when moving into the theatre for the first time yelling out "Macbeth!" a few times & watching the various reactions. I hope it's in the traditional setting. Swords are cool. Killing people on stage is pretty cool too - highly recommended to those who have not tried it yet... :)

It's going quite well. We're getting full houses & people seem to be enjoying it. I've been getting some positive feedback from crew & cast mates saying they enjoyed my characters the most, particularly the elderly one who seems to be getting referred to as the "wobbly man".

Did two shows today (I'm knackered) & then we're on again next week starting Thursday night. I start the first read-through for "Richard II" tomorrow & hit the ground running starting rehearsals for that on Tuesday!

(It was never in C&W. I created this thread before C&W even existed.)

Quote:
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

For fans of Oscar Wilde, this production of his most celebrated play is a nice journey back into the Victorian era, which most of the audience may have experienced first hand.

Director Damien White has assembled a mixed ensemble with several new hands and an equal component of experienced players. Daw Park Players make a sterling effort with costuming the show, but could have been a little more imaginative with the set which, although adequate, seemed a little bland.

In the big space, vocal projection was sometimes a problem, but even at the back row we still managed to hear what was happening on stage.

Nick Hargreaves (Dr Chasuble) and SKaVeN (Lane/Merriman) play their roles well, particularly SKaVeN who comes on in the second act shaking and coiffed with a grey mullet. His comic timing is good, although sometimes overdone, particularly whilst in the garden scene. Mistaking a statue for a person is funny once or twice, but no more than that. Rebekah Muller (Cecily Cardew) and Sally Fudge (Gwendolen Fairfax) have the right degree of demureness and cattiness respectively to pull off the romantic interests and both display great sensitivity. And Joanna Webb as Miss Prism and Patricia Vice as Lady Bracknell both deliver strong performances.

Peter Hoult (Jack Worthing) is in good form and makes the lead role his own in this production but the standout is newcomer Drew Dwyer as Algernon. Dwyer plays the role with much commitment and energy and seems set for greater things to come.

A good production that will improve throughout the season. If you like Oscar Wilde, you’ll enjoy this show. A word of warning though - wear something warm as the venue is freezing, possibly a touch of authenticity from director White to indicate the coldness of the English (countryside that is!).

As far as reviews go I guess it's not too bad. I've had to weather worse. The only thing he criticised about my performance is something I was directed to do so... yeah... :|

Ahh thats right C&W is a recent thing. At least your Director realised that a Grey Trout would never work and retained the Old Grey Mullett , why mess with tradition after all.

Feel the uncomforatable space where willy once was and alas is now out to lunch .
