I know it's a dead topic but this really did leave me wondering.

At any point did no one take albo aside and say: "This is going to be hugely divisive, it's going to cause more drama than the poof plebiscite and if it fails it's going to be a shitstorm and everyone who voted no is going to hate you for basically being called racist for doing so."?
