Vale Tommy Dysart 1935-2022Shannons was deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of actor Tommy Dysart after a brief battle with illness. He was 86. With his thick Scottish accent, Dysart will forever be remembered for his endearing portrayal of a classic car enthusiast with a deep affection for Goggomobil cars. His association with the quirky German marque started in the early 1990s when Dysart appeared in a Yellow Pages TV commercial in which he phoned a number of mechanical workshops seeking a repair for his Goggomobil “not the Dart” sedan. https://www.shannons.com.au/club/news/s ... 1935-2022/

Nichelle Nichols, trailblazing 'Star Trek' actress, dies at 89Actress and singer Nichelle Nichols, best known for her groundbreaking portrayal of Lt. Nyota Uhura in "Star Trek: The Original Series," has died at age 89. Nichols portrayed communications officer Lt. Nyota Uhura in the "Star Trek" TV series and many of its film offshoots. When "Star Trek" began in 1966, Nichols was a television rarity: a Black woman in a notable role on a prime-time television series. There had been African-American women on TV before, but they often played domestic workers and had small roles; Nichols' Uhura was an integral part of the multicultural "Star Trek" crew. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. called it "the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a Black woman in television history." https://edition.cnn.com/2022/07/31/ente ... index.html
