Sonia Kruger welcomes daughter MaggieTelevision presenter Sonia Kruger has welcomed a baby daughter, Maggie, and declared the little girl's birthday the best day of her life.
The 49-year-old Big Brother host shared the news on Twitter on Saturday by posting a photo of tiny booties with the caption 'Guess what ... they fit!'
'Little Maggie Kruger McPherson born this morning,' Kruger tweeted.
The birth marks the end of a long and challenging wait for Kruger and her partner TV executive Craig McPherson who have overcome many disappointments in their bid to become parents.
'It has certainly been worth the wait,' Kruger told News Corp Australia.
'Without a doubt it's been the best day of my life.'
Kruger, who turned to IVF aged 45, has been open about the challenges she faced.
In 2012 she told the Australian Women Weekly she was struggling with IVF, revealing she had conceived naturally several times only to have the pregnancies end in miscarriage.
'I think for a lot of women my age, who perhaps didn't meet the right person until later in life, you can want children as much as you like but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.'
She revealed IVF treatments had failed and she'd been told by doctors that for women her age the chance of the treatment working was zero.
'You still believe it can happen,' Kruger told the AWW in 2012.
'You see stories, and you think maybe that can happen for us, but the odds are definitely very slim.'
Kruger announced her pregnancy in August by posting a photo of her high heels next to the same baby cat booties she used to announce the birth.
Baby Maggie, who weighed 3.8kg, was reportedly named after Kruger's mother, with the name also being a nod to baby Maggie Simpsons from the TV show.
'We've named her Maggie after my mother and the baby from The Simpsons. If you knew my family you'd understand,' Kruger said.
