I thought it might we worthwhile reviving this thread for historical reasons, as we now do have a way to thank posters.

What happens on chrome ? i do not wish to use that browser. Firefox just blacks out when i click a thanks, but does not show anyone else has done so?

Same thing as on firefox. Icon blacks out to indicate you've thanked that poster for that particular post. If you click again, you will remove your thanks from the poster for the said post. What happens in the background is their thanks count is increased (actual thanks count is next to Karma, below their avatar). Thanks count show all thanks ever received, not just for this post. I suppose what is lacking is immediately increasing thanks count for the poster as you click on thanks, rather than seeing it on refresh or next page etc. Will put that in place very soon.

It's good to have, but how does it work?

The attached image shows Macc with 1 thanks and a karma of 0.08
hellopeople111 also has 1 thanks but a karma of 1.96
myth_syd has 2 thanks and a karma of 0.87

I'm puzzled!

Hey sharkboi. Good to see you made it here too :)

I was puzzled as well, but the following formula seems to fit:
(number of thanks / number of posts) * 100

eg. (2 thanks / 231 posts) * 100 = 0.87

Not sure how effective it is, if you have a high post count. At least it's easier to figure out than the ranking system on the old site. I could never figure out the ranking formula for that site for the life of me!

Spot-on myth_syd. I suppose one should look at all 3 numbers (# of posts, karma and # of thanks) to get an idea of someone's true "karma". I'm happy to look at alternative suggestions, but I would prefer to keep it simple. The old site used number of pictures uploaded and number of clicks for each one in some complicated algorithm that made my head hurt.

I've now made it so karma is instantly updated for the poster (after server responds of course). I was playing around with colours to visually better indicate the change but it seemed over the top, so now karma and thanks just get bold and underline on any change. You may have to clear your browser cache for the latest CSS to be fetched but it's not a biggy if you don't.

The Thanks are nice to get, but, I don't know what the hell I've been thanked for!
I'd like to see in each post "poster has been thanked X times for this post", if any thanks has been given for it.
Then in the avatar section "Total thanks = X".

I'm not interested in the karma stuff, it's just confusing.
