I bought a mobile phone back around 2000, only reason was because I had dialup and people complained they couldn't ring me.

I got a plan which doesn't exist these days (afaik), the sim cost me $42 and they gave you the $42 as initial credit to use, it costs me nothing per month, and I only pay anything if I use it.
After nearly 10 years I still have $26 of the credit left, that tells you how much use I have for a mobile phone, I have only used it a few times when the car has broken down and I've needed to call for help.

I have no understanding of why people are so obsessed by it all... :???:

Well, at least you're like all those other people I know who say they only bought it to use in emergencies but then walk around Woolworths with it glued to their head say, "What sort of milk do you want? Do you want frozen peas of the canned ones?" Call me quaint but I usually sort all that out before I go...

You sound like you're being sensible with your money but some of the phone plans with those fancy new gadgets I've seen on the 'net cost thousands...

I just had one of those 'review' calls from Telstra last night. We've got the home phone line and both my wife's and my mobiles with them. Miranda had the most delightful Irish accent, but I had to cut her off and tell her there was nothing she could do for me as discovered in the umpteen previous 'review' calls.

The mobile contracts are up in April, so will be looking around for a new deal. Both are currently on $20 old style plans and we only occasionally exceed this. Primarily use for talking to each other (free) and texting the kids. Would be interested in suggestions. Don't need an organiser, browser, music and all that other crap. Just a phone.

No, no! If you look closer it does appear that she has the cordless model. I wonder if it takes pictures... :???:

I have finally received my new toy - it's AWESOME! It is so fast, starting applications on it is faster then on my desktop computer. GMail, Facebook, normal email, Google Talk, Browser, Google cloud syncing (no desktop software required), Twitter, Google Maps, Weather, News, Camera, Android Market, Music, Voice Recognition... and of course, the phone feature itself :ohyes: :2gun:
