Season 2007 is one that many of the old Souths fans can be proud of & a great introduction to what new blood at the hlem can achieve ..
salute the mighty Rabbitos.

as someone who has been i a position all year of winning & then that last crucial race ,getting serious & not allowing the natural style that has worked every time but the importance of the event takes over = 2nd...

i can rellate to how Manly showed the experience that beat the "racing hearts" and stressed minds. BUT "What a Year " newayz :D

Yeah well done Souths. It's good to see them going well and hopefully they will improve further next year.

Souths snatch late win over Wests Tigers
AAP - May 17, 2009, 5:15 pm

Nathan Merritt's last-minute field goal has sealed a dramatic 23-22 victory for South Sydney over Wests Tigers in their NRL clash at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Merritt popped the ball over from 30 metres out to cap off a superb late fightback from the Rabbitohs before a bumper crowd of 29,970 for the Heritage Round match.

Two tries from Taniela Tuiaki and four-pointers from Tim Moltzen and Robbie Farrah in the second half looked to have sealed the win for Tim Sheens' Tigers, who were forced to play more than half of the game without prop Keith Galloway who dislocated a knee cap.

But converted tries from Fetuli Talanoa (61st minute) and Beau Champion (76 minute) pulled the Rabbitohs level.

Both sides lived up to their reputations as entertainers with Tigers halfback Benji Marshall and hooker Robbie Farrah enjoying outstanding games while Issac Luke and Craig Wing shone for Souths in a free-flowing contest.

Souths scored the first try after 11 minutes when Huddersfield-bound David Fa'alogo barged over after good work from Wing and David Kidwell.

The Tigers hit back almost immediately when Tuiaki smashed past Merritt and Chris Sandow to touch down in the corner.

The big winger doubled his tally midway through the first half in almost carbon copy fashion when he received a superb shovel pass from Marshall and muscled past three tackles.

Marshall's conversion made it 10-6 but Souths hit back to level on the stroke of half-time with a well-worked try in the corner from Talanoa after a fine run from Colin Best.

The Tigers race out of the blocks in the second spell with Moltzen taking advantage of a great kick and chase by Beau Ryan to score in the corner and just two minutes later Farrah pounced over from dummy half to score.

Marshall's two conversions made it 22-10 and the Tigers had opportunities to seal the game, but were let down by handling errors and some good defensive work by Souths.

Those misses proved costly for the Tigers with Talanoa scoring his second of the game with a brilliant one-handed grab above Ryan to score in the corner, and then Champion took advantage of a Chris Heighington knock on to score from close range after being set up by Jamie Simpson.

Just as it looked as if golden point was going to decide it, Merrett kept his nerve to clinch a superb victory with his field goal.

Souths day was soured by an injury to Sandow who limped off in the second half with an ankle injury
