Found this on the net

...Subject: A Humble Hawthorn Thank You
This is to thank all those selfless contributors to Hawthorn's premiership success that didn't get a mention in the acceptance speeches.

To the Richmond football club, we thank you Not only did your shameful tanking in 2004 prevent our ordinary Schwab-led side from the indignity of a wooden spoon, but your swift action in appointing Terry Wallace would bare further dividends in the drafts to come. Congratulations on achieving your goal and being the best team outside the eight this season.

To Terry Wallace and Greg Miller for overlooking the talented players in the 2004 draft. With over 180 goals between them, our two 21 year old key forwards have proven that you can't succeed without a dominant forward structure.

To Dean Laidley and the Kangaroos football club. We thank you for accepting our gifts of Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Hay and for granting us young premiership stars Grant Birchall and Jordan Lewis.

To the Fremantle football club. We thank you for gifting us our premiership captain and north smith medallist with your farcical trading in 2001. And we thank you for returning Croad to us at a basement price two years later. Your role in this premiership will not be forgotton.

To the Melbourne football club and their heartless members. We thank you for your determined efforts to merge with us some 12 years ago. Without that scare, we would not be the financial powerhouse we are today. You never got that merger your collective hearts desired, but your role in putting together the most advanced football department in the land is eternally appreciated.

To the Geelong football club and Messrs Taylor, Mooney and Chapman. We thank you for defecating your footy shorts as the Hawthorn juggernaut closed in. We congratulate you on stealing a cheap flag a year before the Hawks were ready and offer our commiserations to those responsible for your laundry this weekend.

We must also acknowledge Geelong and their individual brilliance. Thank you for being a team of individuals. Congratulations on your dominance of the All Australian side and bad luck to Gary for missing out on the Brownlow and Norm Smith. It was enough to make a grown man cry.

To the Collingwood football club, we thank you. Sure, you're no good but we thank you for exposing Geelong's soft underbelly. Hit them hard, hit them often and watch them fall to bits.

To the St Kilda football club, we thank you for Brent Guerra. We apologise for taking your single tough player and realise this was telling in a preliminary final. In true Michael Rix and Nick Stone fashion, please accept our humble offering of Zac Dawson in appreciation for your efforts.

Thank you to Brisbane for holding onto Leigh Matthews for the right amount of time, preventing the temptation of us taking him as coach instead of Clarkson. It would have been awesome to have Lethal as coach, but I don't think he would have been able to do the wonders with our list that Clarko did.

Thank you to West Coast and Fremantle for failing to effectively keep Buddy Franklin hidden from public view so you they could steal him with their
first picks.

And of course thank you to Carlton, Richmond, West Coast, Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Essendon, Fremantle, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney for overlooking Cyril Rioli in last year's draft, for that, we are eternally grateful. Good luck to them and their stat magnet midfielders. May their pointless 30 possession games forever see them watching on as Cyril Rioli wins Hawthorn premierships with 10 of the greatest touches ever in
football.

We must also thank the media for overlooking our injuries throughout the year. We knew we only lost to the Bulldogs because of injuries and were accused of making excuses. Fools suggested our challenging Geelong in round 17 should be discounted as Ablett, Ling and Milburn did not play. Instead, the result should have been discounted as Dew, Young and Crawford didn't play - all dominated on grand final day. Hell, even with a stack of injuries we were too strong on the biggest stage.

That is all...

The highs and lows of the off season...

After taking 16 seasons and 305 games to reach his first AFL grand final, Shane Crawford wants more.

The 34-year-old decorated Hawthorn veteran will play on next season, with the reigning premiers confirming they had offered him a one-year contract.

While the club and Crawford are yet to agree to the exact terms of the deal, the Hawks said the four-time best and fairest had committed to continuing his career.

The 1999 Brownlow Medallist had been weighing up his options, after being restricted to 14 games this season because of a nagging knee injury.

But he played a key part in the Hawks' three finals, picking up 20-plus possessions in each of them and was among the team's best in their upset grand final victory over Geelong.

Having consulted a specialist, he is confident the knee will improve with rest over the off-season and cause him less trouble in 2009 than this year.

While Crawford is staying, the club announced the delisting of five other players.

Former Essendon veteran defender Danny Jacobs, whose struggles with injury prompted him to retire before the season started, was one of them.

The others were hard-running midfielder Tim Clarke, who played 96 games, Zac Dawson, Luke McEntee and Garry Moss.

They also elevated forward Cameron Stokes from the rookie list to the senior list

From the Hawks website...

Cycle of a Champion...

Shane Crawford, Hawthorn's famous No. 9 of the last 16 years

September 9, 1974: Shane Crawford born in Mount Barker, South Australia.

1991: Drafted by Hawthorn with pick No. 13 in the National AFL Draft from Assumption College in Kilmore, Victoria.

1993: Becomes the 10,372nd player to appear in the VFL/AFL when he runs out for his first senior game for Hawthorn – round one against Melbourne. The Hawks win by 23 points.

Was the second player to be nominated for the League's Rising Star award in round two. Brisbane Bear Nathan Buckley (nominated round seven) goes on to win the overall prize.

1995: Finishes second in the club champion award behind Darren Jarman.

1996: Receives his first All-Australian guernsey – of four in total – for a consistent year which saw him play all bar one game and average 24 touches. Again finishes second in the club champion award, this time to Paul Salmon.

1998: Is named All-Australian for the second time and wins his first club champion award after playing every game in a year the Hawks win just eight. Also represents Australia in International Rules for the first time. Wins the Jesaulenko Medal as the Allies' best performer in the State of Origin competition.

1999: Wins the Brownlow Medal for his remarkable year, and collects his third All-Australian guernsey and second club champion award. Also plays International Rules for the second time. Is named the AFLPA's most valuable player and is a member of the Hawks' pre-season premiership win. Is awarded club captaincy for his stellar season.

2001: Finishes third in the club champion award.

2002: Named Hawthorn's club champion, earns All-Australian selection and captains Australia in the International Rules Series. Also reaches the 200-game milestone in the final match of the season.

2003: Wins Hawthorn club champion award for the fourth time and captains Australia to a win over Ireland in the International Rules. Made most of his headlines for his appearances in 'The House of Bulger' – a popular skit on Channel Nine's The Footy Show.

2004: The forgettable year of his career, Crawford’s season ends in round 10 when he breaks his arm against Adelaide. Without their skipper, the Hawks finish 15th. Crawford steps down at season's end, handing the reins to Richie Vandenberg.

2005: Unleashed from the responsibilities of the captaincy, Crawford finishes third in the Peter Crimmins Medal (formerly club champion award) and reaches his 250th AFL match. A new era begins as the Hawks unveil Lance Franklin, Jarryd Roughead and Jordan Lewis.

2006: Hampered by injury but still manages to finish fourth in the Peter Crimmins Medal count.

2007: While other Hawthorn midfielders command more attention, Crawford is as reliable as ever, finishing eighth in the Peter Crimmins Medal and missing just one game through suspension. But the end of his season is tarnished when suspended for striking North Melbourne’s Daniel Harris.

2008: Misses the first three weeks of the season through the suspension and another eight weeks with knee tendonitis. He recovers to reach his 300-game milestone – a stunning win over the Brisbane Lions in Launceston – and five weeks later plays in his first premiership.

"That’s what I'm talking about!" can he heard around the MCG as he accepts his premiership medallion – a fairytale finish to his 16th season.

Crawford commits to another year, before re-considering and announcing his retirement on November 8 at the age of 34...

Well done to Shane Crawford, great footballer and played his heart out game in and game out, now he shows his true colurs again by retiring knowing that his body could not put up with the rigours of another season. Have a great retirement Crawf and thanks for the memories

for the hawk fans out there posting how many wins do you think both geelong and hawthorn will get in the home and away season next year. I'd guess and say geelong will still win more because they tend to not slip up against crap opposition. I'll say geelong 19 wins to hawthorn 16.
