Shanahan has actually retired from the NBL as a player but is now an assistant coach at the Dragons after they sacked Scott Ninnis as assistant.

Quote: South Dragons go crazy Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - 05:01 PM South Dragons
The South Dragons are proud to announce a new two-year naming rights partnership with Crazy John’s.
The lead sponsorship deal will see the team re-branded the ‘Crazy John’s South Dragons’ ahead of its second assault on the national league.
Crazy John’s Dragons chairman Mark Cowan said the lucrative deal would secure the club’s future standing as a frontrunner in the NBL.
“A sporting team relies on more than its players to be a success, and obviously the financial support that we’ve been able to secure through this new partnership really helps underpin our future success,” he said.
“One of the really important aspects of this new sponsorship is the fact that Crazy John’s is a very high-profile consumer brand with a good presence on the marketplace.
“We’re very much looking forward to working with Crazy John’s to help increase and expand the profile of the Dragons, which will allow us to become more available and accessible to current and future patrons and members.”
The partnership sees the alliance of two of Australia’s foremost brands, with shared aims for success.
“There are a lot of similarities between the two brands,” Cowan said.
“Crazy John’s have always been an entrepreneurial brand that have gone out and engaged the marketplace and been happy to do things a little bit differently in their efforts to become number one, and that’s very much our philosophy; we’re happy to do things a little bit differently in order to achieve success.
“They’re both energetic and imaginative brands that go out there and grab the bull by the horns.”
Crazy John’s chief executive John Ilhan agreed the sponsorship deal was a logical move.
“Like Crazy John’s, the Dragons are young, dynamic and passionate, all values that are held highly within my company,” Ilhan said.
“I know that the team will be incredibly successful, with their desire to be the best at what they do, and the commitment to the winning culture that is upheld at Crazy John’s and at the Crazy John’s Dragons.
“My vision for the future of the club is to see season after season of victories and Championships. There is absolutely no reason why the Crazy John’s Dragons will not be the best team in the competition in the future, and see many of their players in the Australian team.
“Crazy John’s simply wants the Crazy John’s Dragons to be the best basketball team in the league, and secure all the success that they can.”
Following a hugely successful debut, the Crazy John’s South Dragons will launch their 2007/08 campaign on Saturday, September 22, against the West Sydney Razorbacks at Vodafone Arena.
The club’s new-look line-up features a who’s who of Australian and international basketball talent, set to take the national league by storm.
The Crazy John’s South Dragons will again be led by basketball legend Shane Heal, who joins 2006/07 Rookie of the Year Joe Ingles, Australian representative Jacob Holmes, gun imports Cortez Groves and Nick Horvath and a host of fellow stars on one of the most fancied rosters in the NBL.
The Crazy John’s Dragons’ pre-season campaign tips off on Monday, July 2. Further details of the club’s second season will be made public from next week.

Quote: Hill blow for Dragons
The Herald Sun newspaper has reported that promising young South Dragons star Brad Hill will miss the season due to debilitating nerve damage.
Grantley Bernard of the Herald Sun writes that "Hill faces almost two years out of the NBL."
The rising star suffered an horrendous broken arm whilst playing for the Adelaide 36ers in season 2006/07, prompting concerns for his future.
The Dragons still chose to sign Hill as a free agent this off-season however based on his tremendous promise.
Unfortunately the nerve damage to young star's back and shoulder suffered as a result of the break have reportedly limited his arm movement severely and ruled him out for the season.
Bernard reports that the Dragons have now told Hill to forget about the 2007/08 season and focus on rehabilitating in time for 2008/09.
"There are signs this nerve in his back and shoulder has shown some improvement, so we don't want to rush it," Dragons coach Shane Heal told Bernard.
"There's no guarantee if it's going to (be) six, eight or 12 months or whatever, but the experts have given feedback that it's going to be right for next season and we want to get him going and make sure that's the case."
The Herald Sun has reported that Hill will be replaced on the roster by veteran guard Matt Shanahan, who had planned to retire and move to the Dragons bench as an assistant coach.

Quote: Dragons release Conn Friday, September 7, 2007 - 02:24 PM South Dragons
The Crazy John’s South Dragons have released Simon Conn for the 2007/08 NBL season for disciplinary reasons, effective immediately.
Conn was signed to the club in May on a one-year deal, with the option to extend his contract into a second season, after five years at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina and one season in the Polish national league.
The Crazy John’s South Dragons enter the 2007/08 season, commencing Saturday, September 22, with a 12-man roster.

So should Heal step down as coach of the Dragons after a 0-5 start to the season when Mark Price got the ass last season with a 1-7 start? To me he is past it as a player and he is just a plain ball hog and has no idea how to coach.
He overplays himself and sets up the offense around himself. He plays the wrong players at the wrong times as well.
Heal your time is up.

I'd say Heal should be sacked as coach now.

Quote: NBL rookie in medically-induced coma Thursday December 6, 9:54 AM Teenage South Dragons rookie Shannon Seebohm is in a medically-induced coma in a Melbourne hospital after collapsing during a training session.
The 19-year-old development player, who was also selected in the Australian under-19 basketball team this year, was having a shootaround with teammate Brad Hill at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in the afternoon when the incident occurred. It's understood Seebohm's heart stopped, he stopped breathing and went into a seizure, immediately receiving CPR from MSAC staff, who revived him.
Paramedics then treated him and took him to a local hospital where it's believed he was placed in a medically-induced coma.
He was undergoing further tests on Thursday for the suspected heart problem but there was no immediate update on his condition.
The 190cm tall guard has appeared briefly in three NBL games in his rookie season.

4 months after this post the Dragons have done just that. Also Cowan stepping down as chaiman and getting someone more experience to run the club. He will just own the club.
