Yabba Dabba Dooooo, now I am in the 80’s weight category  I thought for sure I wouldn’t do it this week as I have been a bit slack and not done as much exercise this week. Also I have eaten a lot more of the foods that contain the most damaging FATS (But it was bloody great eating my forbidden foods.) but I got away with it. I can actually see my weight loss now when I look in the mirror :D Still not an
Alcoholic drink for just over 9 weeks now, mind you I have come pretty close to picking one up. Now here is a question for any one that has been following my progress. Is all this worth it, I know it is better for my health and I am feeling a little bit better within myself but it has come at a price. The price is: not mixing with my regular drinking friends witch is 99.9% of my friends, so I am feeling a bit lonely. I am still going to AA but have not clicked with anyone there as all of them are much worse than me. So I have been trying to find non-drinking friends to no avail. I have 2 friends that I still see one of them will do anything for me (EG: He put my new shed up for me without wanting anything in return.), he drinks but not to excess around me. We used to have a great time having quite a few drinks together, I do really miss those times. And my other lifetime friend I had lunch with last Sunday (At a PUB), has told me if I go back to my old habits of drinking, he would wash his hands of me forever. When he said it I thought he was joking but when I got home along it sunk in that he really meant it. So I don’t take to kindly to these sorts of ultimates. So I will be losing another friend or “So called Friend I thought”, this is my Golfing mate as well. I think he got the shits with me as I never played golf with him when I was on the piss. I have not the desire to play golf anymore as it well I don’t really know. Good god I am getting a bit carried away here, sorry if you are reading my entire life story. But it helps me get it all off my chest and I feel a lot better doing it this way. I know if I start drinking again I will never put the weight I have lost again. So to finally sum up: Should I not drink again and become healthy and lonely and never see all my life long friends? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am so confused at the moment. Finished at last, that’s it for this week, will be eagerly waiting for any replies (Or signs from god LOL) as what I should do

PS: Have not had an alcoholic drink for 65 days now :drunk:

Bluey, as the rule says 'everything in Moderation'. You can still socialise, have a drink if you want to but all in moderation for you to maintain your weight.

I'm with deej here a little bit. I think you should stick off the grog till you get to your target weight and then maybe you can incorporate a bit of social drinking into your lifestyle. Depends though, you mentioned AA, so if you are concerned about being an alcoholic maybe it's best not to tempt fate. Couple of beers after work on a friday or a sat afternoon with some mates shouldn't be too harmful as long as you trust yourself to stop when you've had your quota.

keep up the good work bluey!

Well done Bluey on getting into the 80's.

A mate of mine got into a bit of strife with the grog last year. He was one of those blokes who couldn't have just one or two - he had to have a skinful each time he had a drink. Without being too judgemental, I suspect you're one of these blokes too (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway he decided to give up the grog and sent an email to all his family, friends, workmates and colleagues asking for their help by not offering a drink and respecting his decision. He hasn't had a drink since December.

From what you've said, I suspect that these blokes are more drinking buddies than good friends, and you are missing the social side of things as much as the actual drink. Only you know if you are strong enough to go to the rubbity and not have a drink. But if these blokes help you out, you could do it.

Your mate who has delivered the ultimatum sounds like a true friend, because he knows what effect it was having on you and knows how you have changed now you're off the grog. Listen to him.

All the best.

Edit: Losing the weight and getting off the grog has probably added 10 years to your life. Probably worth it, I reckon.

Thanks “djmenow” but I am a very sad case. I could never drink in Moderation neither can most of my mates but they won’t admit it.

You gave some very valid points that I failed to see “Desperado”. I don’t know how to just have a couple of drinks as I said it’s all or nothing for myself.

You were spot on “Bullwinkle”, your mate sounds exactly like me. I could never have just a couple of drinks it was all or nothing. You also gave me a different angle on what my mate said about the “ultimatum”, I suppose I don’t want to admit to myself that I can’t drink responsibly.

Thanks for all your feedback folks, it is very much appreciated :D
