Jessica's spokesman Andrew Fraser said she is approaching Newcastle and is on track to arrive in Sydney on Monday.

"She has faced some pretty tough conditions. Last night the wind got up to 33 knots but there was also a very heavy swell about four to five metres," Mr Fraser told AAP.

"Jess is pretty nonchalant and just said `Yes, it's all good.'"

She is expected to announce later this week a date for the start of her bid to become the youngest sailor to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe.

Her parents remain committed to their daughter's cause even after a damning Maritime Safety Queensland report into the September 9 collision with the 63,000-tonne vessel off North Stradbroke Island.

The report said Jessica had kept "irregular latitude and longitude entries" in her log, had no course plots nor a fatigue management plan.

It also said she most likely "dozed off" and that she had not activated an alarm device which would have warned her of the approaching ship.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh even weighed into the debate.

"This is a very high-risk venture. Frankly it's one that I would be reconsidering but ultimately it's a decision for them (the family)," she said after the report's release.

Long live the "brotherhood up the sharp end"! (Well, in this case, the sisterhood) On another note, the roof of my club in Melbourne (Chelsea Y.C.) got blown off in a strong wind last night. The race tower pretty much came off, and landed on one of the houses behind. Apparently much of the (asbestos )roof was torn off. I have sailed on the Bay, while roof tiles were being blown of houses in Elwood and Port Melbourne (55 knots, if you are interested), so I can't imagine how strong the wind must have been to destroy the race tower.

it looked amazing on the news . In 1985 i was with the 12footers in Bris for the Interdoms, we stayed at Noosa at Bruce Hewish`s ( Freshwater sails ) place the day before & saw an amazing storm.. next morning we arrived at Darling Point to see the bay club house without any roof & some side damage. The storm facing full length windows caved in & strong gusts popped the roof clean off ! Luckily they also had the river club that had most history & archives etc, loosing club history -artifacts is always sad when weather/fire strikes a club. We ended up using an adjoing club that offered their place ( luckily to run the Champships ) At least your club has a few months B4 sailing starts up again to regain some composure. occassionly do some crewing on yachts when can get it. at twilight on the 'Swan' -summer, absolutely magnificent. Only way to see perth. imagine sailing on sydney harbour must be outrageous Would absolutely kill for own yacht. only ocean crewing ive ever done was to bali from darwin, the dude gave us shotguns loaded in order to keep pirates at bay-all thru indo archipelagos. nice caps will try to get some of swan next time onboard. hope to do ocean going this season if poss.

Its hard not to think she's been pressured into this by achievement orientated parents How many yachting casulaties have we had lately from seriously experienced yachties! Anyone thats worked on board fishing boats knows how bad it can get, let alone on a little boat

dont know if its true for sydney but my experience with perth's yachting community is that there seems to be a serious overload of 'white shoe insularity'. God they can be such profound c*#@ts. Might hav to try fremantle yacht club, maybe little less right wing/skip orientation. gaaads such uptight wannabee middle-class little pricks-oh my god! Last week was acosted by a woman 'yachtie' for having too many holes in my t shirt as well it not being the right color [white or pastel most likely]. -and some of these yacht owners talk about fascistic arseh@%s!

That scenario is why Syd & Melb acan be better as there are 30+ Clubs that represent all levels & thought/fashion prefferences
