Laura Turner grew up in the picturesque town of Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges.

She graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne with a degree in Professional Communication and Journalism.

While at university, Laura wrote and presented the news for community radio stations SYN FM and Triple R. She also worked on the Newsline program for community television station Channel 31.

Having undertaken work experience at WIN TV in Ballarat, Laura landed a job there upon graduating from university in 2005.

She covered many major court cases, including the trial of Thomas Towle, the man who lost control of his car and hit and killed six Mildura teenagers in 2006. It was her coverage of this case that saw Laura awarded two special commendations in the 2009 Victoria Law Foundation Legal Reporting Awards. She also won the ‘Best Television Award’ for her reporting of this case in the 2008 Regional Press Club Awards.

After three years at WIN TV, Laura left in January 2009 for a news reporting job with TV3 in New Zealand.

While there, she covered the case of the 'accidental millionaires' - the two New Zealanders who had inadvertently been given a ten million dollar overdraft from the bank and fled overseas with the money.

Laura joined Melbourne’s Nine News team in February of 2010.
