Lauren Phillips, a household name in Melbourne with her role as a presenter on the * Postcards travel program , says she’s ready to step up to a national hosting role: “It’s a big step for me and I’m excited by the challenge – I can’t wait.”

LONG-distance love is becoming a reality for AFL glamour couple Gary Ablett and Lauren Phillips.

Phillips has landed her first TV hosting role, with Channel 9 turning her into the queen of the kids on breakfast show Kids WB, with Andrew Faulkner.

The show will be predominantly filmed in Melbourne, with Phillips to remain in Victoria while Ablett is in Queensland with his new team, the Gold Coast Suns.

"Life was not meant to be easy, but we will work it out," Phillips said. "He (Ablett) is busy too.

"I think I would be silly to give up my career ambitions to move up there (permanently) and Gary would never expect that, just as I would never expect him to stay here if he wanted to go up there.

"I will be up there as much as possible when I am not working. It will be a busy year, but I am looking forward to it.


Phillips, who will continue reporting on Nine's Victorian travel show Postcards and recently signed a two-year deal with Myer, said she never imagined herself hosting a kids TV show.

""It was all pros for me. I could not see any reason why I would not give it a shot," she said.

It will screen daily on Go and on weekends on Nine.
