IT might not be the kind of career choice Germaine Greer would make, but former sports presenter Victoria Murphy decided on a new direction when she took a redundancy from Network Ten. Murphy’s new job title is “professional housewife”.

When redundancies were offered, she decided to take a break from the demands of the media, and focus on cooking, cleaning and looking after hubby.
“If you asked me six months ago I would never have thought I would be happy as a house wife,” Murphy, 33, told The Sunday Telegraph. “It’s a sea change – it’s a chance to see life as other people see it.
Victoria Murphy set up new blog "Bondi Wife" in the wake of her redundancy.
“Having the chance to experience life as housewife is actually pretty exciting.” Kitchen duties are going smoothly. Hubby Greg Woszczalski, a financier, is relishing his nightly home-cooked meal, and Murphy is enjoying the chance to cook after so many late night bulletins.
Cleaning is less fun, although “it’s a really good work out, so you can kill two birds with one stone,” she says.

Yes, there’s daytime television, although it’s more likely to be 24-hour news than Days of Our Lives. Then there are walks with the dog on nearby Bondi beach, wine with fellow housewife friends in the afternoon, and her blog,www.bondiwife.com, which records the joys and challenges of her new life.
Murphy is still new to housewifery, having only returned from a post-redundancy holiday a few weeks ago, and has not ruled out going back to work, but at the moment, the new gig is going well.
Victoria Murphy is enjoying the new chapter in her life.
“I think it is a job,” she says. “If I’m not working, I’ll be taking on more things from my husbands side, doing more things around the house. We used to have a cleaner, we won’t now.
“I don’t know, I just feel so grateful to be able to choose to do this for a little while and see how it goes.”
BECOMING A BONDI WIFE
After seven years at Network Ten, two previous rounds of redundancies, hundreds of hours of gossip, plenty of laughs, and countless scandals, I decided to take voluntary redundancy. Having loved my time with the company it feels a little weird not going into work every day, but the opportunity I have now is super exciting. I get the chance to experience life as a professional housewife.
From what I can gather so far it’s an awesome gig! No longer do I have to juggle the husband, puppy, family, friends, hair, nails, events, and other commitments around work, I have the whole day to get it done - amazing! There seems to be plenty of other wives around keen for a sneaky afternoon vino too - happy days! I can now always make dinners or functions, and I have all the time in the world to be a good wife. And yes that last bit does sound a little 1950s, but after presenting on the Late News for the past year and Early Morning News prior to that, just being home at dinner or breakfast time is a whole new experience for me and I have to say it's awesome. And while it currently feels a little awkward not working I'm sure by the time summer rolls around I'll be a pro at it!
I will miss my Ten colleagues. The boys in the sport department are like brothers and the newsroom on a whole is filled with brilliantly talented and beautiful people. It was a place which gave me some amazing opportunities where I met the world’s biggest sports stars and worked with the media Industry's best talent; Sandra Sully, Hugh Riminton, Bill Woods, Ron Wilson, Mike Munro, and the late Harry Potter just to name few. The skills I've learnt will stay with me forever, and while I will still have some roles in the media and may return full-time one day, my main focus at the moment is on being a housewife. This website will obviously allow me to continue writing and it's a great opportunity for me to share with you my passions outside of News and Sport. Along with all things Bondi, Fitness, Fashion and Food I will also post my travel articles. It's a love Greg and I share and we are overseas two or three times a year so stay tuned for ideas which may help shape your next adventure.
