Hi Modecko, none of the HD recordings which I cap from are in native 1920x1080, the nine and seven HD recordings are in 1440x1080 when loaded into VirtualDub. This gives me two options of which the downsized option looks the nicest, IMHO. :)
ABC is broadcast in 1280x720 but isn't filmed at that resolution so is also improved by reducing the size to sharpen the image. Ten SD is broadcast in 720x576 so this is abit hit and miss, sometimes I can upsize to 1024x576 and it looks ok, other times I have to downsize to 720x405 for the image to look clear and have some depth to it. Same with SBS. Nine and Seven 6:00pm news are broadcast in HD but quite often look no better than Ten news so also benefit from size reduction.

Yes Takk, which is why I said to size to the nearest resolution of the native. Downsizing is better than upsizing in most cases when using normal resizing filters (or default resize if you don't have a choice of filters), but if you do have specific filters for down or up sizing then you can get good results by using an upsize filter (e.g. Mitchell)
If you have vector resizers like Genuine Fractals then decent to very good enlargements can also be achieved, in fact to fairly large sizes. But don't make the mistake in believing downsizing is not losing anything, because pixels are discarded in the process and interpolation still takes place.
More button stress from 2009.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Ill do my best to keep the images coming. atefooterz wrote: Welcome Laxative effect . * Do you cap in the prgram your capture with or another? These are from the stream 1st 3 are last Sat & currently broadcast @ 1080 x 1440 & resized to 1080 x1920.. the last one is from 3 may 2009 when they used to broadcast @ 1080 x1920 ( in Sydney ) and nothing done to it. The large caps look ok on my LCD 1680 x1050 but awesome on the old 1024 x 768 CRT as letterbox full screen. I have heard that some systems you set the capture image parameters = everything comes out that size. LupusRex has that so SD ch ten stuff is upscaled but quite nicely considering the huge increase. NOTE: Chit chat is allowed, with posting a penalty pic or 2 haha Ill explain my process of capturing an image. Firstly i record a video (4:30 news) using my tv card (fusion hdtv). I could capture with the card itself but i found when my computer has a lot of process running the capture time is a bit off and i wont get the image that im after. After the video is finised i use the video re-do tv suite to capture the image. The thing is, i don't change the image specs in any way, i just run the video once through and select the frames that i want. It gives me four options as to the size. Original, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8. Ill add some images of the varying sizes so you guys can see them then whichever one is the best ill upload in that size from now on. Personally i still like 1920 x 1080.

ahh that explains it, if you grab the TP or mpg file into your fusion player & cap it, you will see that ch 7 is 1080 x 1440, your "video re-do tv suite" playing the same file, knows that you want is 16:9 .... so it adjusts the aspect ratio accordingly. All images are sized by the vertical height
