Kate Ellis gets the fashion vote for spread in Grazia Magazine's body image edition

THIS is Sports Minister Kate Ellis as you've never seen her before.

These stunning shots of one of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's shining stars are for Grazia magazine's special body image issue, on sale tomorrow.

In the shoot done on an athletics track in her electorate of Adelaide, the 32-year-old minister sports a pair of killer $1790 Gucci heels and a curve-hugging $695 leather Karen Millen dress and looks more like a runway model than a Member of Parliament.

"I really enjoyed it!" she said of the experience. "I didn't think it would be so much fun – I didn't want it to stop."

Grazia news editor Maxine Frith said they were not sure the minister would agree to do the shoot but got an enthusiastic "yes" from her. Frith said she hoped the magazine's issue would make women feel better about their bodies.

"Our annual body survey shows Australian women are their own worst enemies, putting body image pressure on themselves," she said. "Seeing a strong, confident, successful and athletic woman like Kate in this light is a great example and encouragement for Australian women."

Seven out of 10 women interviewed for the weekly magazine said they judged other women based on their weight and most replied with "fat" and "disgusted" when asked how they feel about their own bodies.

Ms Ellis, who last year established a National Advisory Group on Body Image, said she was horrified by the magazine's findings.
