Quote: Single Robson vies to become web dating queen
She admits she's single and doesn't meet many guys, but that hasn't stopped former Today Tonight host Naomi Robson from dishing out dating, sex and relationship advice through a new web-only show.
Robson, 46, left Australian TV screens three years ago and in that time has been hard at work on her new internet venture, The Naomi Show - LoveLife, which launches just before Valentine's Day, on February 8.
The new web venture means Robson's TV hiatus may be extended for some time to come. She had reportedly filmed an "Oprah-style daytime chat show" pilot for Seven, but this was not picked up by the network.
The Naomi Show will air online on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays and feature panels of men and women discussing the dos and don'ts of dating. New articles will be added to the site daily.
Robson, whose image in the eyes of the public was damaged after relentless parodies from comedy shows such as The Chaser's War on Everything and snarky press, described the show as Sex and the City meets He's Just Not That Into You.
Panellists are set to include psychologists and relationship experts, as well as Australian personalities such as Nick Giannopoulos, Krystal Forscutt and Tottie Goldsmith.
Robson is clearly still learning how to harness the web for self-promotion, with the NaomiShow Twitter page this morning counting just four followers and the associated Facebook profile listing 15 fans, including Robson herself.
Strangely, users can only follow the NaomiShow Twitter posts after Robson accepts their requests.
Similarly, Robson, through celebrity spruiker Max Markson, is refusing all interviews about her new venture until next Monday due to an exclusive arrangement with New Idea.
In an interview with the magazine, published this week, Robson said she was single because she did not have time for dating.
"I guess the reason why I'm not 'hooked up' is simply I haven't taken the time," she said.
"I have great friends and great family - I tend to spend a lot of time with them. I'm not going out in a social scene where I'm meeting guys."
Robson said she wanted to get married if she found the right guy, believed in soul mates and listed a sense of humour as what she was looking for in a man.
Will her show perhaps help Robson in her quest to find the right guy?
"You'd hope it would," she said. "Some of the dating tips from the guys are really pertinent. It's interesting to hear what guys have experienced on dates - the little mistakes women and men can make."
