The nature of Monkey was ... irrepressible! Monkey is getting a reboot. A joint Aus/NZ production for ABC, TVNZ and Netflix. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-04-20/m ... ot/8457782I'm a bit put off by the whitewashing, i.e. an entire cast of white actors playing Asian characters. There are also some significant changes to the story (which is a novel based on real people an real events) such as turning Tripitaka from a boy (usually played by a girl because it's supposed to be a young boy) into a teenage girl. And they made Sandy a woman!

I missed out on this, it was a pre cursor to teletubbies, that the kid brothers had on, watching glued to it. I thought it was Shintaro meets mardi grass. :)

why is everyone worried about the whitewashing of it,
if they did asian it up , the chinese would say too japanese and the Japanese would say toov chinese.
Plus there's half a dozen Asian movies of Monkey and no ones mentioned how could they are.
Be glad it's filmed in NZ and we can cap it

As far as I can work out there have been 29 movies and 11 TV series based on the story. The biggest problem I have is turning Tripitaka (who was a real Chinese Buddhist monk) into a teenage girl.
