Looks like the Anime thread must've got deleted (hence this new one).

Anyway, the anime moofy on SBS1 at 11.50 tonight is an absolute cracker!

I hated it when I first saw it but saw it through very different eyes in later years. I think, when I was younger, I just thought it looked to Baroque for a sci-fi flick set about 10,000 years in the future.

It was made back in '85 so it's interesting to see the sophisticated level anime cell animation had already reached at that time compare to the six colour per cell shite animation the west were doing at the same time.

It is the distant future, Supernatural creatures are controlling the small civilizations left on Earth. A beautiful young woman, Doris, has been bitten by Count Magnus Lee for trespassing in his domain while hunting for demons threatening her home. Fearing that her life will be controlled by the Count, Doris hires and offers herself to a man known only as "D", a vampire hunter with a dark past, to hunt down and destroy the Count, end his thirst, and save Doris from a life of eternal damnation.

Vampire Hunter D (Wikipedia)

The scenes where where Magnus' chariot races through the village & all the crosses melt & the scene on the battlefield are fucking awesome!

There's an anime sci-fi moofy on SBS late tonight. I've never heard of it but, judging by whet I've read on that new fangled intermenet thingamajig that the kids these days are always on about, it sounds like a real cracker!!!

12.25am - SBS1 - "Paprika"

Paprika (Wikipedia)

Paprika (IMDb)

Paprika (Official US Site)

If you're not going to be up that late it sounds worth recording.

"Appleseed " is on at midnight tonight on SBS.

I recommend this movie to any fans of anime. The animation is some of the best I've seen.

Quote:
The Year is 2131. Only one sanctuary remains in the wasteland created by World War III: Olympus City. It is run by a massive supercomputer named Gaia which controls all functions of everyday life. The city is populated with humans and bioroids, a race of genetically engineered humans that can be programmed to do anything. But some believe that the bioroids and Gaia have a secret agenda - to eradicate the humans and dominate the planet. (From Japan, in English) (Animation)

Here is the first fight scene.

Got the Appleseed DVD when it cam out some years ago. It's great in the storytelling department but the artwork is stunning.
