I've heard before that it's only been cash from UK sales that's been keeping it afloat for years so if that's drying up it probably doesn't bode well.
I heard that to it was going to be axed a few years back but got kept on because of the viewership it gets in the UK.
It was in trouble because BBC were negotiating a fee cut as their own finances were being squeezed. then C5 entered the bidding and took over and it was OK.
When Channel 5 took over they punted it like it was a jewel in their scheduling crown. They have been winding back on screening for a couple of years. It used to be early evening on 2 of 5 network's digital channels at different times, repeated daily in the small hours, and they'd show a full week omnibus at weekends. First they axed the omnibus then they removed the after midnight repeats and finally confined it to one channel in the time slot it used to occupy on BBC, and brought in a show sponsor, currently Specsavers, which I think they have now lost, so this was inevitable as they try to divert more money into their own productions which they can sell on to other networks abroad.
Channel 10 are looking for a new partner to keep it on air, but in UK C5 is usually the last stop for a dying show so chances in UK are limited unless an executive somewhere is a big fan and sees potential. I can't think of any other show cast off by 5 that another channel has picked up, but oddly that "pro diversity PC culture" slant might play in its favour as newer digital channels like BBC3 and ITVBe try to speak to younger generations more keen on a woke culture and mindset. That's an outside chance IMO because the bottom line will always be money which isn't there in the current financial climate.
From my perspective the show has been on the slide for a number of years. Improbable story lines running predictable paths with increasingly annoying characters who no one really cares about played by actors who can't. Home & Away isn't in the same trouble because they remain marginally better on all fronts, don't force feed PC diversity and they regularly put sexy people in gymwear and swimwear which keeps the ratings up.
Roxy may have fabulous boobs but they aren't big enough to carry an entire show
