Mini Biography
At 16 Deborah Gray was working in the typing pool of Australia's Parliament House when she was plucked out to work on the Prime Minister's private staff. Getting bored with the job, she started modeling in her spare time and was named as the national capital's model of the year while still working at Parliament House. A modeling offer from a Sydney agency prompted her to exit typing for good and head for the big smoke. Deborah found her way into television, first in commercials and then in acting. She landed a regular part on "Number 96" (1972), aptly described as "a groundbreaking serial featuring high camp dramatics, sex, sin and nudity, and hilarious comic relief." In her role of psychiatric patient 'Miss Hemingway', Deborah secured a niche in Australian television history as the first character to appear full frontal naked. The ensuing media attention launched her as a sex symbol. She ran with it, but found it a hindrance in pursuing a serious acting career. An interest in singing lead her to branch out into music. She released a couple of singles to mixed response and composed and sang the theme song for an otherwise unmemorable movie in which she appeared. Although she drifted out of showbusiness in the 1980s she continued to develop her musical skills and released a jazz CD of her own compositions in the 1990s. She also developed an interest in the occult that lead to a number of books and a media tag as "Australia's Good Witch".
