Kymsarse wrote: Nothing on Kym since August. Does this mean she's now officially no longer hot enough for this forum? Sadly, that's pretty close to the truth! The producers and writers of Neighbours, in their infinite wisdom, turned her from schoolgirl minx to middle aged frump almost overnight. Why, I have no idea. Compare her with Ada Nicodemou in H & A, who happens to be within just a few weeks of Kym in age and who also plays a single mum with a son somewhere near 9/10 years old. Ada dresses sassy, frequently wearing shorts and short dresses, even appearing in a bikini a few weeks back Poor Kym is usually dressed in matronly'schoolmarmy outfits in varying shades of sludge. Esther Anderson is only a couple of years younger than Kym and she looks fantastic when 'off duty' in short shorts and minis. Maybe there's a cultural difference between Sydney and Melbourne - I wouldn't know. The characters in H & A usually seem more believable and typical of what I expect people of their ages to behave and look like.

I don't know about the culture side of it but it's an interesting theory. All I know is that Jane Hall often gets to be Cleavage Queen whereas Kym is more conservative. I think it's a missed opportunity because I think Kim definitely has the edge in that regard. I don't see why something can't be arranged without breaking character. The cleavage is often the focus for slightly more mature women that might have a few reservations about showing other parts of the anatomy such as upper arms and legs or wearing tighter clothing. I don't think it necessarily implies 'slut'.

When Kym returned to the show she said that she wouldn't do bikini scenes anymore because after all her hernia ops she doesn't think her body is what it once was. If we look back to the mid to the late 1990's Kym had absolutely no problem showing of her body in tight, low cut tops, short skirts and tight pants that showed off her fabulous ass. So that showed she was not conservative.

I didn't necessarily mean that Kym herself was more conservative, I meant that is the way her character is being portrayed at the moment; I also think that there are other ways to dress her flatteringly that do not include dressing her in bikinis and showing-off her stomach, which is what I was basically saying in the last post. I think the TV and wardrobe folk tend to shoot themselves in the foot when they get certain little ideas in their heads. I think the whole world has gone crazy with control-freakery on a number of things. It's not about standards but self-interest. Then again, the whole world does not revolve around us getting a perv but it doe seems like opportunity gone begging.

Spot on, meperson. We have to differentiate between Kym the actress and Libby the character.
I've no reason to believe that Kym isn't anything but a normal, lively thirtysomething yummy mummy. It's Libby the character that has become prematurely middle aged, although we did see a bit of 'liveliness' at the recently shown wedding party! Why the producers should make her this way, heaven knows. It couldn't do the viewing figures any harm to have a character with a bit of umph.
There must be something puritanical going on behind Neighbours because none of the present young cast, except possibly Valentina, show the slightest fizz of sexuality - in contrast to the girls on H & A who have it in spades.

Well after a time off period due to illness and now back on screen Kym has been written out of the show for the time being with an opening to come back after being admitted to hospital to be treated for a depressive illness.
The Neighbours producers have said when she is better she is welcome back but has been told to look after her health and get better.
It is not known how long she will be out of the show.
To think she is looking good on the show since she has come back with the shorter hairstyle.
Hopefully she gets better and recovers from her depression.
