Hi everyone, I built a brand new computer piece by piece about 5 years ago.
I got it out the other day and it all seemed to be working fine,
I have a coolit vantage water cooler installed, and I kept getting “cpu fan rpm 0”
I saw online that you can change the connector, and get the fan to work perfectly.
I did something stupid, I got one of the 4 pin wires from the power supply and connected this to the fan to see if it would spin, and since then half of the power isn’t working.
I have power to everything except the case cooling buttons, and the water cooler itself. (Screen usually comes on onover the cpu) Motherboard, Hdds, and graphics card etc has power. CPU fan runs for about 1 second then stops, I am assuming this is power supply related.
Pc boots up although I don’t run it as the case has no cooling.
I have ripped the pc case apart checking for bad connections etc, although I didn’t turn it on.before I tried the fan fix.
Specs are below:- CPU core i7 2600k Mobo: Asus P8Z68 V pro Asus dvd rw 60gb SSD 1TB HD’s 4GB ram from memory Thermaltake level10 GT case Aerocool V12XT 700w power supply Asus nvidia GTX550 TI graphics card
Could I seriously have short circuited half the power supply from trying this fix?
