I've always been a desktop PC man but am thinking of contemporising my thinking & getting one or the other.
Which option did you folk choose & why?

I've had them all! Currently toting a Acer Aspire 5740G laptop, Acer Aspire One D255E netbook and Dell Streak 7.
depends on what you want to do with it and how much you're willing to spend.

I concur, it depends what you want it for. I recently got a quad 4.2GHz PC with 16GB of RAM and 2TB HDD for less than a low end tablet.

I bought an ipad instead of a lap top. I love it, but found it definately has its limits. Although I use it regularly, little things frustrated me, such as can't upload files on this site and some webpages where you would put a mouse curser over an icon for the menu to appear, doesn't happen on an ipad. So A month later I bought a new laptop. Windows tablets may be different, but I guess you know 100% what a PC/lap top can do. An I pad can only do about 90% of that. However it does have benefits that laptops don't, mainly through apps.

If you are only going to buy one thing, it's got to be a PC. Tablets are handy for casual internet browsing, but there is no way you could be as fast on it as you would on a PC. Typing on a tablet is only just tolerable, if you have to write for long it will drive you crazy.

What brand is it? Where do I get it? Remember I'm in Brisbane. The shop is called Precision Computers in Geebung. Have a look at some of these: http://www.precisioncomputers.com.au/product/pc.phpI should have added that was only the box. I already had a relatively new monitor, speakers, etc and because I run Ubuntu I didn't need to buy Windoze. By going into the store and discussing different options, and paying cash, I was able to negotiate the price waaaaaay down.

My PC is 9 years old and although it does everything I need to do, more speed would be nice sometimes.

Well, after many, many years of loyal service, my trusty desktop finally committed suicide.
I have now got a Acer A6-3420 AMD Qad-Core laptop. I've been told you need quad-core for when Windows 8 comes out.
It will take me a while to get used to a 16" monitor after my 25" one...
