In the market for a new tele , thought I might go all out and go for a 3d model .
Have a few questions .
1. Passive or active 3d , what's the difference ?
2. Cheapy or quality brand ( eg. panasonic) ?
Been looking at Samsung , Panasonic or even this http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/46-led-tv-3D-full-hd-pvr/
I purchased a Kogan for the van quite a few years ago , and has been a reliable unit , but it's not in use everyday .
The 3d glasses seem to be another story again Image
Your thoughts please

Why bother with 3D? The broadcasters aren't supporting it.

Good Q narly, I'm interested in answers to this as well...

The only thing I know is that I have one friend with a Panasonic Vietta(?) and it's sharp as a tack, and one friend with a Samsung model which doesn't look as good.
I have no idea about the differences between Plasma and LCD etc etc

Here's a reasonable explanation: http://www.pcworld.com/article/225218/active_3d_vs_passive_3d.html

I'm cautious about going 3D just yet. The technology is still too young, and the range of 3D movies is limited.
I'll be holding off till the next generation comes around, when glasses are not required, and picture quality improves.

3D-TV....

I don't reckon it's even "3D" anyway. The objects do appear to be at different distances but they still look flat, like looking at a range of objects painted on a series of flat glass panels...

And the glasses! Oh the glasses! Just the idea of having to wear dark glasses in your own lounge room to watch TV seems odd to me. And what if you have guests? Do you let them wear the glasses or do you wear them? If the former, what if there aren't enough glasses for all your guests? Or are we all supposed to keep our own pair of glasses in the car in case we're somewhere & end up watching a DVD?

I got my tellybox ten years ago. It was the last big screen 'TV' Sony made before they went over the LCDs. Beautiful picture. I reckon it's still better than the picture on the LCDs they have in the shops now.

I think for 3D TV to really catch on it needs two factors. It needs to be BIG! Not much point trying to immerse oneself into a 3D world with an ordinary sized screen. And NO GLASSES but they are working on that. I saw an advert for one of those portable gamer things that has it so it's coming. Reckon I'll wait 'til then.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Narlz.

Thanks for the link Humph , made up my mind that 3D won't be a necessity . I allreay wear glasses so the thought of wearing 2 pair at the same time is very off putting . Down to the shops now i spose to compare picture quality .

Well an expensive sunday , settled on a 47" Panasonic ( Panasonic Viera TH-L47ET5A 47" Full HD 3D LED LCD TV ). Wasn't after 3d , but a local Adelaide retailer had this model on sale at a very reasonable price . First impressions Image

Further to , I rented a 3D movie to try out this 3D stuff & I must say I was pleasantly surprised . Wearing the glasses was not uncomfortable & the effect was quite amazing , I never thought it would be as good as it was . Very happy with my new tele
