I've never seen Bob Brown so excited before. At about 10pm Saturday he actually raised an eyebrow.

I dunno... For years the Banana Benders have been trying to exorcise themselves of the pumpkin scone peanut farmer "Don't you worry about that" hick stigma & then they go & vote for a cowboy like Katter as a federal representative.

Anyway, it's not very democratic allowing just three people decide who will govern the country for the next three ears, is it? Especially considering it all depends on which party does a better job of licking their arses & promising to tailor-make the country to their particular desires. When the two major parties beak even I'd rather they just called another election, let us have another go & hopefully this whole business has taught some of the donkey voters that their vote does count...

Leave the banana benders alone! Image Image
Bob Katter is a good representative of his electorate.

Donkey voters deliberately poo on our democratic system, for their own reasons: Don't expect them to find the kitty litter box anytime soon.

The ACT and Tasmania have "Robson Rotation". This means candidates appear in a random order on each ballot paper. This cancels out the effect of donkey votes.

Here's the best summary of the election so far.

Bob Katter is a good representative of his electorate.

A redneck cowboy climate-change sceptic who believes there are no homosexuals in his electorate & made his first point of business to give the media a spray for not giving him enough attention? Perhaps you're right & he is a good representative of his electorate. I hereby withdraw my previous statement. Image

Regardless of whether the eventual "winner" will be the ALP or LNP, they won't be able to get anything through so will have to call another election anyway. Image

Don't agree Skaven. Governments at the State level with independents has worked and in some cases worked very well.

That statement also shows an ignorance in the way a minority government works. Independents having singed with a party cannot then just block everything, that is up to the opposition, non-aligned independents who are sitting on the cross benches like Crook and Wilkie are proposing to do, and the Senate.

Yes the government has to give concessions to the independents, which is why the indies have their shopping lists out at the moment but in government they can't make government ungovernable. The whole idea is to get stable government from a tied situation, which is the GG's number one deliberation in allowing a minority government.

On the other hand the major party in minority power can destabilise government to force and early election, which is widely being reported as to what Abbott is up to. His costings are a crock of shit and he's hiding much, which the indies have flagged by the way, so he wants to govern in his own right as soon as possible so will deliberately pick fights with the indies to force an election. The indies have picked up on this and his dissimulation, which is why they have insisted on the condition for a full three year term. On that condition being made Abbott began manoeuvring to trigger another election as soon as possible. He certainly has a lot to hide.

Read Antony Green as you always should when delving into things psephological.

Well, that's one independent signed up to Labor. The fact that the other two members' constituents want them to side with Liberal means that the ALP can't start doing a victory dance just yet...
