ABC HD is no longer a simulcast of ABC1. It's running continuous ads for ABC News 24. But it hasn't updated the EPG! As a result, I recorded 30 mins of the same ad instead of Spicks and Specks.

Same thing happened to me Macc. Will have to catch the repeat on ABC2 tomorrow, although not as good picture quality.

Aunty scraps her HD channel & Channel Sandra only use theirs for sport most of which probably aren't even in HD (unless there's a market for 720p & Dolby 5.1 Digital Rodeo Riding or Lithuanian toad racing). Those of us who just paid extra for an HD-STB are probably already calling that money well spent!

The only thing ABC showed that would have made HD worthwhile was nature documentaries, but 99.9% of what they did show was just the SD simulcast of ABC1.

I just noticed now , although I was able to record the last episode of Spicks and Specks in HD. Also Macc, you said in the topic I made about ABC News 24 that Spicks and Specks isn't recorded in HD, if I'm not mistaken isn't 1280x720p HD?

I think Macc was referring to the fact that S&S is not RECORDED in HD, which means there is no actual benefit in it being broadcast in HD format. Personally, I think the removal of ABCHD is bad news. Although Macc may be right in that ABC does not broadcast a lot of HD quality programmes, I read this announcement as their intention to NEVER broadcast HD programmes. So, even the high quality BBC Natural History Unit (i.e. David Attenborough) stuff will no longer be available in Australia in HD. A sad day for Australian TV.
