the 'media' yes has largely owned this debate for their own purposes, but their is also something deeper than just blaming the media [other agendas-I'm not going to elaborate.
nevertheless the whole racist thing has long since had any real interest for me, its an argument that will always be in the realms of the childish and the intellectually underdeveloped. dont know why i bothered with this one. probably just a continual need to help others properly rationalise the debate
.
humphrey bear-"My Landlord is Greek, most of my next door neighbours are Greek. Many of my closest friends are Greek. For years, I worked in low paid jobs beside Indians, Vietnamese, Somalians, blah, blah, blah; you get the idea. On the whole, I think that our society is multi-cultural, accepting, and tolerant"
[and dumb]-I ask are the greeks very tolerant to the turks, also one of the most mysoginist races/cultures round.
also is there an equation here whereby our working rights and entitlements are being kept under lock and key thru this kind of racial rhetoric/emotional blackmail by business interests. Australians have been for two decades the most over-worked underpaid workers in the so-called first world [which is rapidly converting into the 3rd world].
Having worked as farm laborer/kitchenhand all my life much of it relies on cheap labor to serve meals to the rich, or help farmers become rich from the proceeds of cheap overseas labor just like america has become either rich or poor with an increasingly smaller middle class. sorry
and all these indians do you really think theyve just come here to study. might one of their reasons for coming here be to displace australians????
how would australians go if we decided to hold up in public spaces in india to protest indian provincialism or its attitudes toward foreigners? if youve ever been to india you can meet wuth some serious attitudes [how many australians have been murdered while holidaying in asia dozens and dozens]. its not all peace charm and happiness.
actually I dont mean to blow my own trumpet here but my essay great southern republic has juast been nominated for the nobel prize in literature. and if I win I will be only the second australian after patrick white to recieve such an honor. This article discusses the current australian cultural racial syndrome brilliantly.
