Source article: ABC

Quote:
Mr Abbott sought spiritual advice from the Buddhist leader.
"I did ask for some guidance when it comes to maintaining inner peace," Mr Abbott told reporters.
"He has decades of experience ... I've been leader for three days.
"I was reassured ... that provided you approach things in the spirit of truth and compassion you will be given the inner resources to cope with the difficulties of daily life."
Mr Abbott said he hoped to channel some of his new-found inner peace and compassion to heal rifts in the Liberal Party.

Ok, Crow Eaters, I will do you a deal.
You get rid of Michael Atkinson, and us Mexicans will get rid of Stephen Conroy.

Michael Atkinson sucks because of he is holding the whole country to ransom over his viewpoint on R18+ Games classification, and we all know why Stephen Conroy sucks

I think that's a fair deal; what do you say?

Too right, crashdown!

I think you should write to Tony Abbott asking for your right to access porn to be protected, maybe even Sophie Mirabella, Concetta Fierevanti-Wells, or Kevin Andrews.
Surely, at least one of them will defend your right to access information about the Holocaust, Euthanasia, or maybe even Gay Marriage? Wouldn't they? :?:

I shudder to think that one day, heaven forbid, that AusCelebs.net winds up on Conroy's precious Blacklist.

The Libs have already said the plan is OTT and they'd have no reason to change for the current system. My guess is anyone with 1/2 a brain (Their goes ALP fanboys) will be able to bypass whatever they put in place quickly and easily, however as with everything Labor what they are doing will come at a price, as for everyone else maybe they'll enjoy their internet access being on par with China and Iran. Just remind me what happens when you speak out about the government in China and Iran...? I know you're attempting to appear funny Humphrey but with the first link the chain is forged, yes?

It's Howard's plan crashdown, only he wanted an opt in but then would have foisted it on us anyway, and the mindless conservative supporters without an independent neuron amongst them would have praised him whilst being screwed.

You denigrate the liberal supporters as not having half a brain when any casual look at the conservatives posting on the net will soon show where the peanut brains are. Almost universally the ones supporting this abomination of a policy are right wing conservatives, the ones speaking out against it the most are liberals.

Also a topic on net censorship which should be rightly criticised is turned into an ALP bashing exercise and totally unrelated policies bought in, proving just how little the conservatives have to offer to the debate that they always fall back to base and crude abuse. And how smart is this, they think that by playing on Rudd's name is a sign of cleverness but actually demonstrate how narrow and petty minded they are.

You say, Crashdown, that they'd have no reason to change the current system; I disagree.

Sophie Mirabella, Concetta Fierevanti-Wells, Kevin Andrews, and Tony Abbott are all fundamentalist Catholics, and they need Stephen Fielding, the "lysdexic", Engineer extraordinaire of Climate Change Denial and fellow God-Botherer, as an ally in the Senate. Courting Fielding, alone, is a very good reason to say nothing about this legislation.

Conroy is mucking it down in the gutter with the Liberal leadership, in his shameless pursuit of the God-Bothering vote (won't somebody please think of the children!), which leaves a natural political hole for the Opposition to fill: Namely, leaping unequivocally to the defence of internet freedom of speech. This sort of bullshit legislation is worth GOLD to Opposition parties, and I have not heard one definitive statement from the Conservative leadership regarding their position. The closest thing to a viewpoint I have heard is along the lines of "we will review the proposal put forward". What does that mean?
Not one Liberal parliamentarian that has come out resolutely against this legislation. NOT ONE! The moderate liberals should be up in arms about this, but they are muffled by the conservative theocracy that has usurped their throne. Even one of the "godless communists" of the Labor party has spoken out against it.(NSW Labor MP Penny Sharpe - I am not saying that she is a "godless communist", as I know nothing about her at all) At she has the balls to stand up to the Government.

Sadly, Howard and Costello sold the soul of the "Liberal" party to the God-Botherers, and the party can no longer speak out against censorship without upsetting most of their political base.

Conroy's Bill will not be tabled in parliament till well into next year. The Liberal party MUST come out in full strength to defeat it.
Crashdown, you seem to be saying they will.
I will wait and see, but I am betting that they won't, for the reasons I have mentioned.

So well said HumphreyBBear.

All across the tubes the shrill conservatives are saying this will bring down Labor at the next election, which is a nonsense as a recent poll analysis on it showed. The only way it will be a major vote loser for Labor is if the Coalition make a complete differentiation and not only completely denounce the entire legislation with no provisos or namby-pamby, but also break their radical right wing religious links, which is something they will not do as they are much needed funding source.

That the Coalition didn't immediately come out and denounce Labor's version of this censorship policy during the last election should have been an indication of where they stand and their silence now says they haven't changed that stance. The Coalition are as much for this policy as Labor as it has great benefits to both major political parties in stymieing dissent and criticism that the net has given unbridled rise to. It is similar to the draconian anti-terrorism legislation enacted by the previous government. Whilst over the top and wrong on several fronts it was fully supported by Labor, and not only supported but made more draconian by State Labor governments. After the first piece of anti-terrorism legislation was introduced and promising it was the right amount of law and sound not needing to be changed, nearly each year after its introduction excuses were found to increase the scope of the legislation to take away more rights and become more intrusive.

The same will happen with this net censorship legislation no matter who is in power, and I believe more so if a conservative government is in power as they have long form on suppressing dissent.

That Rudd has introduced this, and most else he has done, shows the Rudd government is nowhere near as left as some here avow, but his is a centre right wing government, which is why I'm surprised that right wing ideologues are so critical of him. He does mostly what Howard would have done if he was still in government.

Anyway this must fought with every means possible and not the least reason being that a radical religious future government will get hold of it. The best way to do it is by following this advice, but it does require writing the old fashioned way. Emails don't cut it.

Bernard Keane’s guide to writing to Ministers

PS.
Latest polls out and Abbott is not doing very well, and why anyone thought differently has me stuffed. Wait until the day he blows his top and puts his foot in it which he always does.

Do you reckon the opposition are going to oppose this net censorship, not on your life are they, and I have no doubts in government they would have bought it in if it were not already in.

All kids must read the Bible, federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says
