Wondering what the best way is of marking ( watermarking ) ones caps . Something discreet and not obtrusive of course .

I use FastStone Photo Resizer, it's FREE http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htmResize, crop, change color depth, apply color effects, add text, watermark and border effects

Yeah , looks ok but I can't see where it lets me create a watermark

Choose 'Advanced Options' then choose the 'Watermark' Tab...
