Aussies do well at the French OpenAustralia's Jelena Dokic and Samantha Stosur have won slots in the second round of the French Open, while teen sensation Bernard Tomic has made an early exit.
Dokic, a former world No.4, came from behind to win her first-round match against 24-year-old Croatian Karolina Sprem 3-6 6-1 6-2 on Tuesday.
Stosur, who was seeded at No.30, also had a comfortable 6-4 6-2 win over Italy's Francesca Schiavone.
However 16-year-old Queensland wildcard Tomic went down 6-1 6-2 6-2 to the No.29 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany after being hampered by cramps in his left leg.
It was Dokic's first appearance at Roland Garros since 2004 when she was bundled out in the opening round.
The 26-year-old didn't have the best start, misfiring shots during some determined battles with the No.91-ranked Sprem.
But Dokic bounced back, breaking Sprem early on in the second set and again in the third, celebrating with a shout of come on to the crowd before she wrapped up the match in 90 minutes.
Dokic has been trying to make a comeback after battling depression for several years.
She made the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in January and sliced nearly 100 places off her ranking to reach No.80 this week.
But her performance has been patchy since Melbourne, having withdrawn from Ponte Vedra Beach and Charlestown in April citing fatigue and then losing the first round of the Warsaw Open to qualifier Ioana Raluca Olaru.
'It's the second grand slam of the year that I've gotten past the first round so I have to be happy with that,' Dokic told reporters.
'It was not going to be an easy match (against Sprem).'
'She's played pretty well year this year and maybe she was even a favourite coming into this match because I haven't had so many matches in the last few months and I didn't play so well the last two weeks, three weeks.'
'But I was really, really strong mentally today and I'm happy with the way I came back.'
Dokic faces a tough challenge in her second-round match against world No.4 Elena Dementieva of Russia who beat South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers 6-4 6-3.
Meanwhile, Tomic struggled with cramps in his left leg during his match against Kohlschreiber.
'I think my leg started cramping and I could feel ... if I had pushed on a lot something would have happened,' he told reporters.
'I didn't know what it was because I (had) never felt it before.'
'That got to my frustration a little bit and I started thinking about that not my game.'
'Before I knew it, I lost.'
Tomic paid tribute to Kohlschreiber, whose game he had spent a lot of time studying before facing him on the red dirt in Paris.
'Today he played really well and I couldn't get to his shots at all,' he said.
'He was hitting the ball so heavy.'
'He deserved to win and that's why he's a top-30 player. He's been around for the last two years in the top 30.'
In the women's doubles, Australia's Jarmila Groth and Czech player Renata Voracova lost their first-round match 2-6 3-6 to Ukrainian Olga Savchuk and China's Tiantian Sun.
