Since there hasn't been one thrown up already.

(It's probably more interesting if you vote for who you THINK will win, rather than who you WANT to win.)

Having to have a Grand Final replay is a bad decision.

They don't allow draws in regular finals so why couldn't the GF been decided by extra time?

The AFL should stop living in the past when it comes to GFs.

Agreed. Especially considering the millions tied up in AFL GF Day (as opposed to the piddly little VFL ones).
Still, at least it gives another extra whole week for the Collywobbles to come up with their best choking strategy... Image

The AFL don't look ahead of the inconvenience its caused players, coaches, officals and supporters. Especially

This would have to be the last GF Replay, just like 1990 when the Colliwobbie/West Coast qualifying replay caused Essendon to have a 2 week break and they got underdone.

Cant see what all the fuss is about, nothing was said in 1977 after he Collingwood/North Melbourne draw but now with new people everywhere it seems to be a problem FFS people it's in the Australian Football Rules, I never hd believed and never will believe in extra time but if you bring it in you dont just bring it in for finals you bring it in for the whole season. sorry just my two bobs worth

The rules have been around longer than any of the current players have been alive. If they don't like it they are free to take up another career. If the fans don't like it they are free to follow another sport.

That's a surprisingly conservative statement, coming from you, Macc.

Whilst I am not fussed either way, I can appreciate the reasons why people would want only one Grand Final per season.

The rules were indeed inherited from long ago, but from a time when you didn't have this many people flying in from all over Australia to get a seat (as it was only the VFL).
If this game had involved an interstate team, the furore about a replay would be enormous.

Football today is much more of a "business" rather than a sport and we should be open to adapt the code to be truly representative of the wishes of the fans (i.e. market forces).
Not only that, but we should be mindful of the disruption caused by re-staging the Grand Final at the MCG. Many other codes of sport will be affected, not just the AFL.
Admittedly though, this whole thing is a financial bonanza for the city of Melbourne (Mexican Central :smoke: ), and personally I am not put out at all by watching the two teams play again next weekend.

However, I do think the rematch favours Collingwood, as the momentum was with the Saints at the end of the game. As Nick Maxwell said after the match, "I think we dodged a bullet".

Edit: I have updated the poll: Now a draw is an option, and you can change you vote.

Rules can be changed. What worked well for the VFL back in the 70s isn't necessarily guaranteed to work as effectively in a national AFL in the 00s. It's become a event too big to have to re-stage again for another week. Not to mention the many people who took time off work to travel interstate to be there. A rematch may work well for VFL, SANFL, WAFL but I think there are some circumstances where we need to look at the AFL in a different light. A national football league is still a relatively new & growing intervention which, in some instances, is still finding its feet so I think we need to be prepared to accept that, for the good of the game, some occasional changes made be necessary.

Personally, I think the best & fairest solution is to play two ten minute quarters (i.e. one each way) on the day & be done with it.

Giving Lenny Hayes the Norm Smith when they still have to play another one next week's ridiculous in my opinion. So who's going to win one next week? No wonder he didn't feel like talking to anyone. Imagine if he plays shit or gets charged with something next week. (At least it'd take the heat & media driven nastiness off Chris Judd.) And what does the best on ground win next week? One made out of chocolate?

Anyway, I'm sticking with who I tipped last week (i.e. St K). The Collywobbles only scored two goals in the second half so the chokers are starting to tighten. Image
