Born and bred in Brisbane in 1983, multi-talented musician and actress Emma Dean has now moved to Sydney with her partner/producer Ben Stewart. Originally trained in jazz at the Conservatorium in Brisbane, she went on to form the duo Bittersuite and worked with Kate Miller-Heidke until she found a style of her own as a solo artist.
She has done successful gigs in Brisbane and around Australia, most notably at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Woodford Festival, often accompanied by physical theatre troupe Zen Zen Zo.
Musically she is somewhere between Kate Bush, Queen, and Regina Spektor fusing camp theatrics with good solid rock songs that have a classical bend to them.
Emma was recently in the news after she suffered the loss of her beloved violin Elliot on a QANTAS airlines trip after arguing with the officials not to have it in the luggage compartment. As a result the instrument was cracked in transit and she was distraught over the whole incident.
As a member of her street team, I am helping to promote her new show "Emma Dean (Meets Dr. Dream)" which delves within the 10 steps of insanity. Below is the poster for it:
