Now there's a name I haven't heard in years1.I'm sure I've got a pic of her lying topless on a surfboard from a book "aussies at play". I'll see if I can find it.

The funny part, from a Sydney perspective, is the types that moved into "new St Ives" in the 70s were similar to the 1980s Cherrybookers and now are dopleganged by the renamed suburbs in housing estates in Kellyville :chuckel: Gottalove newmoney & young urbanites

Did you live there? My family did. Growing up we had an amazing home at St Ives then we moved to Turramurra. The Jewish community were in great numbers in St Ives during the 70's and 80's. The Asians started moving in large numbers in the 80's (and pretty much is still that mix today).

Cherrybrookers were and always will be the wannabe copycats and are still an isolated stereotype. $700k homes built in the mid 80's that bottomed out by 60%. That was disgraceful.

In the 60s there was old StIves and great folk, many Jews & still are but in the early 70s when the build boom happened my high school was filled with white reffos & those expelled from private schools. The worst offenders were the plumbers kids who moved from Blacktown & were now jumping on the dissing of Killara, my crib, when they were new built on dirt near where skippy was hiding from the closing in of bulldozers. I may have hung around some parties with those Catholic girls. :chuckel:
Being an out of towner now you missed seeing many of the early Asians in Cherrybrook who have sold up there now or just rent them out to Poms, nowadays. 700k still only just gets an ex housos at Merrylands haha. Try getting anything at 60% off since 2009-10!! The market V the Daily Telly and the banks making sure there was no meltdown of their assetts worked a treat. Bella Vista & kellyville are still low but stuff that cost 500,000 -$800,000 to build is snatching $900,000. Bargains are to be had with the previously 2mil "McMansion" stuff is grabable at $1.2 to 1.6mil
