Network Ten bringing Young Talent Time back, without Johnny Young

n the 1970s and 80s Young Talent Time launched the careers of some of Australia's best knownpop stars including Dannii Minogue and Tina Arena. In 2012, the iconic talent quest is set to return to our TV screens.

Originally hosted by Perth pop singer Johnny Young in the 1970s and '80s, Channel Ten’s revamped version of the show will be hosted by 2003 Australian Idol finalist Rob Mills.

But it will be co-produced by Young - the show’s original creator.

The network remained tight-lipped about the details, but said that a core group of performers would feature each week and nation-wide auditions would commence in Perth on September 17.

Capitalising on the popularity of Glee, Network Ten’s chief programming officer David Mott announced at last night’s programming launch in Sydney that Young Talent Time would target Gen Y and family audiences with a contemporary take on the original format.

“Nobody is more excited than me,” said Young who was in Sydney for the launch.

“We want to search and find the finest talent in Australia,” he said.

“Young Talent Time is sort of like a university where kids learn all about show business…so I know that we are going to give you a television show that is 2012 with a fantastic host and the greatest and finest talent that we can find around Australia.”

Just a reminder to cappers that most of the cast are likely to be underage.

The show is being promoted as being for 8 - 16 year old's.
But we are unlikely to be able to pick a 16 year old unless they mention their ages when they appear.

Nooooooooo!!! I absolutely loathed that programme! There's just something about watching precocious kids performing like adults, isn't there? Still, the paedos will be rapped it's back.
