I use Flash Video Downloader in conjunction with Firefox. Unsure if it is compatible with Chrome though. As with sharkboi's method it provides you a download button and various file sizes depending on the quality you want. This add-on allows you do download any video that is a mp4 / flv extension from many sites. This comes in especially handy because of all the restrictions YouTube places on videos for what it considers adult material. Some other sites include but are not limited to: Dailymotion, Vimeo and LiveLeak

All the previously mentioned addons etc no longer seem to work any more for downloading HD YouTube clips!
The way I now use to download HD YouTube clips is this.

I have installed this... http://www.clipconverter.cc/addon/
IT WORKS!

It adds links on the YouTube viewing page below the video, one of them is MP4, click on it and you will be taken to a page where you can set up and download the desired quality of download you want, I always download the highest possible quality option.

have fun...

I use the http://www.clipconverter.cc/ too, safe with no viruses. If there are some Popups or exe or files shows up, don't click, I think it's the best youtube video downloader ever, can download everything from one channel at once and it can converts video!

Since there seems to be a few questions about this...

youtube-dl
https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl
There's a gui floating around. Unlike other suggestions they're both completely free and open source.
https://code.google.com/archive/p/youtube-dlg/
If your commandline-fu is gud youtube-dl does a shitload more than just youtube....

The gui is pretty self explanatory and I'm guessing is probably the best bet for most here.
I tend to do most of my dling on a linux box in terminal as I find Powershell (or even cmd *shudder*) to be a bit restrictive in scope. If you're going to go c-line I'd get the win ffmpeg and avconv binaries as well to put in the same directory - it'll help dl'd from some sites like sbs etc.
Happy to give any advice.

I found that this also works to download yahoo 7plus.

To make it easy, navigate to the web page that contains the video you want and copy the entire URL.
Then open a CMD prompt and navigate to the directory where you downloaded youtube-dl.exe and type

youtube-dl.exe -v

Leave a space after the v and right click the command window and select paste from the mini menu.

the command line should now read (for example)

youtube-dl.exe -v https://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/home-and-away/-/watch/36984261/home-and-away-episode-6727/#page1

When you press enter you can watch the progress of the download. There is no need for any other options, as it will default to the best quality video available, and download into the local directory.

Someone did a great little bit of coding on this. :thumright:

...Oh, and Sharkboi - I downloaded the above video (which is ~260MB @1280 X 720) through my VPN in a little over 1 minute. So it's quick as well.

Nicely layed out instructions HBB.
The list of sites it works on https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html (I think the list may be old) - I know it works on 7, 9 (with some not others), Ten, iview and some sbs (hence my suggestion about ffmpeg and avconv - the up to date ver. seem to work better with sites that use hlsnative.
If you are using c-line don't forget to
#youtube-dl -U (or elevate to run as admin on windows) occasionally to update.

I finally got around to checking out youtube-dl, bloody brilliant stuff! :ohyes:

The GUI for youtube-dl is definitely the way to go, not only for those of us windows users who aren't used to using command line thingy's, but it has other benefits too.
You can configure it to download to any DIR you want, and you can load it up with a pile of URL's and set them all going, it will download 3 at a time, and work it's way through the list.

I've been online since 1993, I'm always looking for the quickest and easiest way to download video's, and this is definitely the easiest I've ever found, many thanks to ringofyre for letting us all know about it, if AusCelebs gave out medals you deserve one!

Cheers sharkboi - I'm pretty sure the many pics that you've uploaded and I've d'loaded over time *more* than makes up for it.

EDIT: The "Update" button on the gui does exactly what it says. ;-]
EDIT EDIT: Changing the audio setting to convert to mp3 is a good way of adding to your music collection using youtube...

I use 'Freemake Video Downloader' It's the best. Download in various qualities/sizes and can convert to mp3.
