I'm looking at replacing my existing card (it's an old Brooktree model, so the quality isn't great) My price range is rougly anywhere up to $250. What is the best quality card I can get for that price? I'm assuming Pinnacle is, although I saw rebel raving about the canopus, but it's a little bit out of my price range
Any thoughts???

Does anyone know how I can find out if the PCI slots on my mainboard are PCI2.1 compliant? The model No. is P4VMM2... it has 2 pci slots and I'm trying to find out if they are compatible because the capture card I want to buy requires it to be. Thanks in advance guys.
Carlos.

If that MoBo is an ELITEGROUP P4VMM2, the ECS site is a horror to navigate, but URL: http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/manual_p4v.html
will give you pdf User Manuals for Series 1.3/1.1a & 3.1/3.1 - just be sure to grab the English, not the Chinese!
You should find your info in one of those.

Carlos.
im 99% sure your mobo and every other is pci2.1 compliant
they just put it in the specs so the dumbasses think wow it must be a super new pci device and hence worth paying more for it
if your still not sure download sisoft sandra
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra
theres a mainboard module that tells you all you need to know about your mainboard

Looking at getting a capture card etc but have a laptop and want to be able to capture Pay TV? Any suggestions???
Are there any good external cards/devices around?
Any help is appreciated. Who knows with a bit of luck I may start posting something worthwhile rather than just silly questions such as this!

Dvico and Nebula usb cards are the best. Regarding PayTV, if the paytv box goes in via rca (yellow, red and white plugs) and the cap card has these inputs too, then you can cap it that way fairly easily.

i have a single tuner Divico Fusion DVB-T card and yesterday installed the latest driver - that stopped be being able to capture all
sub channels but gave me a heap of pic in pic split screen
options (nice but i could not find any way to turn them or
time shifting off !) i removed that driver then installed a
oct 05 version that is great but my fusion converter is only
running at 0.1% the speed it used to makig mpg2 files !
all formats DVD DivX and mpg2 are converting at around
0.3% sooo time consuming and silly .
even though i have mpg2 selected in tools it is doing this ..
2006-08-18(Fri)PM0642-CHD11.mpg.20068207640.ac3
2006-08-18(Fri)PM0642-CHD11.mpg.20068207640.mpv
that is a dvd format ??? uggghhh !!!!
also i can not change the first part of capture file name only
the part after "snapshot_j " grrrrrrrrrrr
help please ???????

From memory, here's what happened to me.
(drivers supplied were v2.8 ). I jumped on the net & grabbed the v 2.9 drivers, installed them instead, everything went ok.
about a month or two later, I grabbed the v3 drivers (this is where I had the trouble). Me being the silly one @ the time, I forgot to uninstall the previous 2.9 drivers (before installing the v3.0 drivers).
so, I uninstalled all stuff relating to the fusion (completely removing folders and registry entries that were left behind).
rebooted, installed the 3.0 drivers and everything was ok.

Above: My current config.
(currently using the 3.41 drivers) I never really had any troubles capping in .TS format (until recently. I switched to capping in native mpg)

i found that native mpeg files would only work with the fusion codec ?
neither laptop or my kids pc will play native mpegs
your config is similar to mine
but you are not grabbing the 1080 stream -or with ch2 andABCtv
you only get 1 station .
