Maybe you'll be up watching the Geminid meteor show later tonight.
If so, you might notice the ISS passing over (after 4 am. :bored: )

Details as follows for Melbournians.

above W, Disappears: 32° above SSE

It should be a clear night, and the meteor storm should be at it's height. I might set the alarm clock!
But then again, I have been disappointed in the past.

Shit! I don't know what to do!

I might set up my GoPro for timelapse every 2 seconds. My only problem is that my balcony faces south, and the meteor shower will be in the north. Might have to mount it on my roof for best vantage point

Good luck! :thumleft:

At least the ISS will appear on time at the designated location (in the west). Maybe there will be some meteors in the background.

Anyway, let's hope for clear skies! I hope you get some great shots. (...Hoping you post em here if you do.)
I've set my alarm for 4 am, and taking pot luck.

I have been thinking about getting a GoPro; are they as good as they say?

I don't have any quality camera equipment yet, but I am considering getting a GoPro.

But the problem in my backyard really was intermittent cloud.
Small windows through the clouds offered some chance, but I missed out on a lot.

I did see the IIS (though I've seen that many times before, it still blows me away!)
I also saw two satellites in close proximity moving north to south, not something I see very often.
I saw ONE meteor after half a hour of watching.

Oh well, there's always next year. :cofee:

Maybe Wolverine got something?

For pictures, it's OK, nothing to write home about. You wouldn't expect a camera with such small lens to do a job like a semi/professional camera from Nikon or Canon. But for videos, it is nothing short of breathtaking! It's easy to use and somewhat limited in options it offers compared to a semi/pro, but that allows anybody to get into it and explore it's features. Not to mention the wide angle that allows you to capture much more than a traditional video camera. I've taken it to ski slopes and swimming pools, and resulting footage is excellent.

Below is a link to the video I've captured, highly compressed so quality is not the best but you get the idea. Started around midnight in the west, 10 seconds exposure with 400 ISO, continuous mode. Depending on your monitor, you may have to increase brightness for more detail. You can see some streaks around 30 and 40 sec marks. Changed my mind about climbing on the roof, decided to use shed instead

Edit: Oops, wrong link, try again.
