BREAKING: Australian Entertainer, 82, Arrested On Suspicion Of Sexual Offences

The BBC have reported that an 82-year-old Australian entertainer has been arrested on suspicion of sex offences, as Operation Yewtree broaden their investigation into child sex claims against the late Jimmy Savile.

According to a police statement, released a few hours ago, an 82-year-old man from Berkshire, UK was arrested some time last night. The Met have yet to release the name of the individual involved.

Tom Savage, editor of The Daily Star newspaper, has tweeted that the man in custody is Rolf Harris.

Rolf Harris named over sex abuse allegations

British media has named entertainer Rolf Harris as the Australian arrested and questioned last month over historic sex abuse allegations.

London police will not confirm the man's identity and the ABC has not been able to independently verify the reports.

What little information is available is based on a statement from London's metropolitan police last month.

It followed the arrest of a then 82-year-old man, on suspicion of sexual offences.

He was bailed to a date in May, pending further enquiries.

The arresting officers were from Operation Yewtree, which is the investigation prompted by the child sexual abuse allegations against late BBC TV star Jimmy Savile.

The alleged offences at the centre of last month's arrest are not linked to Savile.

Rolf Harris charged with indecent assault

Rolf Harris has been charged with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of children, police have said.

Mr Harris was first arrested in March by officers investigating historical allegations of child sexual abuse.

Six offences relate to the indecent assault of a girl aged 15-16 between 1980 and 1981 and three relate to a girl aged 14 in 1986.

The indecent images of children were alleged to have been made last year.

Mr Harris, 83, of Bray, Berkshire, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 23 September.
