It's a bit ridiculous now that we have HD TV & people are forking out all the extra $$$ to get an HD-TV & HD-STB just to find out the networks are only going to use HD for sports & news. I like sports & news as much as the next person but couldn't give a fat shit whether or not it was on an HD channel. However, I would like to see actual programmes that were made in high definition with Dolby 5.1 sound on the HD channel (where it would be possible for me to enjoy all that).

Not really because Spicks and Specks isn't recorded in HD.

ABC News 24 won't be using the HD channel. The HD channel will be turned off and ABC News 24 will be on channel 24 (aka ABC4). This will spread the bandwidth currently used for 1 x HD and 3 x SD channels across 4 x SD, meaning an improvement for ABC1-3.

The only thing the ABC does that would justify HD is their excellent nature documentaries, but these are few and far between. I just can't see any real reason for an HD channel taking up the bandwidth when it is never actually used to good effect.

So your saying that ABC News will be available on a SD set Top Box?

As far as I understand ABC News 24 will be on channel 24 for obvious marketing reasons.

Good to hear it won't be HD after all, I've been putting off getting a HD STB until I had absolutely no choice!
