That used to possible. You could write 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3 and your preferences would be exhausted after 3. However it was an offence to advocate voting that way.

What you are describing there is the "Langer Vote". However, the way you have suggested would mean that only the first two preferences would be counted. The multiple "3" preferences would not count, as the officials would not be able to determine the genuine intent of your third preference, therefore the vote was counted as "invalid" on the third round.

I voted this way until the Howard government changed the rules, making any ballot paper immediately "invalid" if the preferences were not sequential. (So, not even the first preference was counted)

You are right about it being illegal to advocate voting this way; that is why Albert Langer was sent to prison.

7 June 2010: Rudd says it's either me or Abbott.

Not looking forward to the upcoming election, because there is nothing to look forward to.

So Rudd going to losing the election partly due to the immigration and boat people yet most who are not liking the boat people influx say no to One Nation??? Go figure.

Liberals took the majority of One Nation policies in their term yet these people want to vote in Liberal??? Go Figure.

The people loved the handouts in the GFC and wanted more but now are showing their dislike to the Labor party??? Go Figure.

Rudd starts to bring the troops home (as he stated in the last election he would do and people liked him for it) yet now want to vote in Liberal who have stated thinks we should increase our troops in a war that we should have never been in from the start thanks to the ass licker Liberal Howard??? Go Figure.

Ahhh....yep Liberal sounds soo much better. Not!!!!

I say vote the Greens (for something different) or One Nation (if they still existed).

Don't the media love scaring bogan Australians about all those invading boats full of marauding immigrants? The majority of immigrants don't even arrive by boat, they come by plane. Oh, the ignorance! Still, you've gotta laugh!

As far as Pauline Hanson's concerned, I'd by quite happy for her to spend the rest of her days in the UK telling them how all the Asian steal the jobs & the Africans bring AIDS. If it wasn't so sad (& highly offensive) it'd actually almost be funny...

When silly loud-mouthed people bang on about "immigrants" coming into our country, they actually mean Asians but they call them immigrants because it's a safer word. Personally, I prefer to put as much distance between those people & myself as possible. Would those people be so outspoken against their arrival if they happened to be European/Anglo-Saxon? Interesting little hypothetical that one...

Yeah, give the Greens a greater balance of power. Whether you like Bob Brown or not you can't deny his passion; giving up all his hard earned to the point of bankruptcy to support a cause. Now that's putting you money where your mouth is! The ALP losing a few seats may force them to make a few coalition deals with a few independents (like the state ALP government had to do here). It'd humble them & make them think a bit.

I said right at the beginning of the last election campaign that the ALP would've won more seats if they had Gillard as their leader. Not because she's more competent than Rudd but she's more of a straight shooter & not nearly as smarmy. People hate smarmy politicians. I think a female candidate would be a popular choice with a lot of the female voters too.

Shouldn't this thread be changed to "Voting for Whom?" Image

Why?

The title was crafted by a Nobel Prize Nominee for Literature.
It should be preserved for it's historical significance.
One day it might be worth as much as a "Banksy". :chuckel:

Now, stop this gratuitous spamming, at once!! :punch:
