I finally got a capture card XD

A few days ago I bought a Compro VideoMate Vista E800F . Just wanted to call on your knowledge on how to get the best out of it. For instance should I use Windows Media Center and record in WTV format or use Compro's DTV4 and record in MPEG-II or TS format? When making screen captures what program should I use and what format is best to save them them as? What program and codec should I use to convert/down scale my recordings to get the best quality to file size ratio?

Any input will be much appreciated, Daza0166.

If your card is anything like mine (Fusion) then i suggest recording in TS format for high quality & stills then converting files to a saveable compressed format . Does it record multistream ? mine grabs the channel stream so i can then grab what was on say ch9HD & go at the same time & separate later.. means i can grab 4 shows @ once with the dual tuner ..handy on SBSHD & sbs2 when they have sat night treats :D

Many guys use PDVD to cap & depending on settings it can grab correct aspect ratio stuff, Batch converters are essential if not ..to correct aspect ratio.

Vitual Dub is good ( if you can understand the thing ) to cut & create finished vids to compressed size for avi -xvid , i think.

enjoy & hopefully someone with your card & software can give you the good dirt :cofee:

You can record 4 channels at once :dizzy:. I thought the DViCO FusionHDTV Dual Digital 4 only could record two channels as it has only two tuners. Thanks atefooterz for your input.

The Fusion can only grab 2 channels at one like all dual tuners ... using the TP files, to record, gives the option of recording multi stream or just individual stram. So if i record all of ABC, on one tuner i get ABC1, ABCHD, ABC2, ABC3 ( soon - currently ABC1 SD) + dig radio .. the other channel can record all of ch9 so that gives 9SD, 9HD & GO in that TP file = effectivly 7 different programmes or at least 5 as the SD & HD streams are usually the same content... all in the one hit :D

If i use native or MPG2 or DVD etc then i am limited to 1 stream per tuner = 2 channels.

* Noise Removal– Effectively remove noises resulted from weak TV signals or poor cablings.
* Deinterlacing– Traditional analog TV system is broadcasted in interlaced mode, which only sends out the odd or even lines of a picture at anytime. The TV set then displays the images at twice the frame rate and fools our mind into thinking they are complete images. However, the end results are often less desirable and users often notice flickers in pictures. Compro VideoMate fixes this problem with its special deinterlacing technique.
* Video Smoothing– When playing back on high resolution monitors, the video will appear aliased (or jagged). Aliasing is the stair-step effect on the edges of objects and can be extremely distracting for the PC user. The video smoothing technology smoothes out the edge pixels and provides a more pleasing picture.

Sorry for the very very late reply, just forgot about this. I usually play my recordings in VLC Media Player or BS Player.

GOM is a useful capping device ..the multi frame is handy for movement.

No VLC supposedly can ..but only opens the 1st sub channel- that was used when recording.

Only my fusion card seems to be the only way i can access the sub channels atm.

GOM does "multi caps" per click. ( you can choose 2 - 99 frames per click )

NOTE: this cap is compressed to only 25% from the orgiginal 4.3MB size :chuckel:
